The last time I was this excited about the future of the team, we traded for Pippen. I was camping when it happened. My dad and I were sitting around camp listening to the radio as the rumors continued to pour in. That team was ready to contend. This team is rebuilding, but the excitement is still the same.

It's crazy how this team reminds me of the 96-97 team.

Bob went out and got Sheed, JR Rider, and signed Kenny Anderson. He drafted Jermaine. He traded for Augmon mid season. The next summer he signed Brian Grant and traded for Damon halfway through the season.

I haven't seen a GM flip a roster like this since Whitsitt.

I actually think it's arguable that this team has more young talent than that Blazers team. It took them two years to make some noise. I think it might take about that same amount of time for this group to put it together. I'm excited to see it happen.

Most excited I've ever been as a Trail Blazer fan.

I didn't know Scottie would be as good as he was in Portland.

That was a great season. The last time I was this excited was when we got Oden with the number one pick to pair with BRoy and Andre Miller..then it crumbled into Luke Babbit and Chalupa cheering with Nate fired and Felton replacing Dre...from the greatest excitement to my least favorite season in record time.

This may be the most athletic team top to bottom in franchise history. That doesn't necessarily translate into wins, but it's a good start. The only one that compares is the Drexler era team. Clyde was probably #1, but if you compare the rest of the rosters, I'm not sure this team doesn't have that one beat. Now if they can develop.

Porter vs Henderson - not close in terms of athleticism
Drexler vs Ant - Drexler....but Ant isn't a slouch
Kersey vs Sharpe - Shae is one of the few who could edge out Jerome
Williams vs Grant - that might be pretty close to a draw. Both athletic, but Buck was miles ahead in toughness for a real 'power' forward
Duck vs Ayton - not close
Robinson vs Williams - Cliff was no slouch, but TimeLord wins here

don't get too high.

further to fall.

I don't even have expectations for this team. If anything, I'm excited that for the first time in a LONG time, I don't know what's going to happen.

I think we all knew for a while that the team wasn't good enough to win a ring. We knew that one way or another, the team would go out in the first round or maybe the second round, but they were going out. How excited can you be when you keep going out on dates with the same girl and every time you end up back at home with some blue balls and pornhub open on your browser?

I legitimately have no idea how this team is going to do this season. The not knowing is what's exciting.

Although I have low expectations for this upcoming season (actually the next two), I will say it's kinda how I felt once Drexler was traded. I was ready for him to move on because realistically that team wasn't going to compete for a title with Drexler leading the team, just as they weren't going to compete for a title with Damian on the team as the #1 or #2 player.

That's not saying that the team will compete for at title going forward, but we know what they had with Dame. We don't know what they have with the new group. Could be something fun, could be more middle of the road shit.

I don't know if Simons is the answer, but that really depends on how Sharpe performs this season. If he can be a SF, which to me is a bit of a stretch (no pun intended) then Simons could stay.

All in all, it'll be nice to see growth and progression of Scoot and Sharpe (and to a lesser degree Ayton and Rupert).

I'm at the point with basketball that I just want to win the next game. Not get too far ahead of myself with the random shit that can derail a season. I'll say that I think this team is as deep as any I remember and is more athletic and talented than any I remember since the Trader Bob Pippen team. Plastic man Augmon had a beautiful game. He was smooth

I was a lot more excited about the Roy/LMA/Oden team till it all fell apart on crumbling knees. That took 3 years though

and the season after Lillard's shot eliminated Houston I was pretty excited, but Olshey's terrible moves and injuries killed those dreams. Olshey was the dream-killer and I never was excited as long as he was GM, and his dysfunctional rosters kept being rebooted, year after year after year

I'm holding my excitement in check for this season until I can actually see how good the players are and how well Billups can coach them

Yeah you beat me to it. By the time we got GO we had seen that Roy and Aldridge were for real. Oden was the best big prospect since Duncan and that was pretty much the consensus. That was a really exciting time. It was the most excited I'd been since we went to the finals with Clyde. I wasn't even as excited when we got Scottie as that team would make me after watching them.

For sure the high moments I've had as a Blazers fan are the finals with Clyde, where Sheed's Blazers got to because they really felt like they were a shot or two going their way from winning it all, then getting the first pick after watching Roy and Aldridge for a season and right now but right now is blurry because the rest don't have any recency bias built in.

I feel like I didn’t even get a chance to be excited about the Roy/LMA/Oden team. It was barely after the draft when Oden got hurt. I think he played in like one game of summer league and then he had surgery. And then maybe a year or two later Roy started having serious issues. I was excited about Oden and that didn’t last long.

We've been hearing that Scoot is working very hard on defense in training camp.

What happens if Scoot Henderson is Russell-Westbrook-esque on offense, and Jrue-Holiday-esque on defense, eventually.

Was Westbrook a good defender? Or Derrick Rose?

He might just be Chris Paul with the body of a linebacker. Lol

Yeah, but no one knew that was just the beginning of Greg's injury issues. Every national pundit still said we were the team of the future. Far more people around the sports world were saying that team had championships in front of them than what we're experiencing now. There was a lot of hype around that group, less around this group and now with hindsight, sure I'm more excited right now that this group will become something special than I am about the disaster that team turned into. That being said, no one is saying the kind of outlandish shit about this team that everyone was saying about that team when we picked Oden. Lest we forget.

Chris Paul with the body of a linebacker and the athleticism of ? Westbrook? something like that.
There were several people who follow the NBA draft prospects calling Scoot a hybrid of Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook.

Me too. I’m super excited. This is what I meant about wanting a new start. I HATED the Dame era the last 3 years as many of you guys know.

It was SUPER played out and completely boring with the direction it was going. What we are doing now is EXACTLY what I wanted. Cant wait

I was much more excited about the Oden team.

Was also a bit more excited for the LMA Wes Dame teams. They were a top 10 team if not dark horse contender. But that ended when Wes snapped his Achilles.

This is the most excited I have been since then. Never bought any of those post LMA teams had a realistic chance to contend. This squad feels like it might someday. Obviously need youth to improve and use future picks well. But there's at least a small chance of building to that contending eventually.

Even if these Blazers never take that step to contenders, I'm very excited to see what other improvements happen with this group. how Brogdon Grant Thybulle contribute as vets, if Ayton/TimeLord can take their final steps of growth, and especially what improvements we see from Ant/Scoot/Sharpe.

Oden looked very good the following year and into the playoffs when we lost to Houston. I was super hyped for the future then. It was the first playoffs we had made since that long drought after Sheed/Zbo/Pippen.

But then early the next season Oden kneecap broke and he never recovered. Never thought Roy's career would end so suddenly either, but then abruptly he was toast too.

Go, BRoy and LA played 62 games together. They weren't all healthy games and they were still learning how to play together.

Their record was 50-12.

We should have had multiple Larry O'Brien trophies with that trio.

Lol. It will only be a matter of time till you start getting on Ayton, who might have worse traits than Nurk and has a title of being soft.
This forum will start to complain about him very soon.

You will preach we need to trade Ant, over and over again.

Basically this is a honeymoon phase with a new team with people, only a matter of time until this forum does what it does best, complain 24/7.

Are you talking about vertical jumps and court sprints? Ant is athletic but how much does he score in transition or lead a break? He plays kind of like CJ. Also that Blazer team was a great rebounding team, which helps with even getting fast break opportunities, but this team will probably be one of the worst in the league again.

Didn't use a high draft pick on a C who was on crutches or wearing a cast his last year in college? GREAT!

I think Scoot is going to be da man. You heard it here (not so) first!

There are two kinds of NBA franchises. One is owned by a flamboyant billionaire who has money to burn (for a while) and who loves basketball. The other is owned by a person or family that runs the franchise as a business, their way of putting food on the table. Maybe a 3rd is owned by a billionaire who's a baseball fan.

Among franchises, I have always been impressed with Blazers management. I've liked the GMs and coaches, and it seems we all have liked the players. Sometimes that's what it's all about.

Go Blazers!

I really wish you would end your posts the way Denny ended his monologues in Boston Legal.

Yeah, clearly OP has just cut that part of his brain out with a melon baller, because I'm pretty sure we were all pretty jazzed about that at the time.

Normally people who awake from years-long comas just ask for a Pepsi
