Blazers now looking for a backup PG? Makes sense to me. Not like they didn't have all summer and Darren Collison available. Wow. Thats also pretty alarming that after 3 days of camp... they have come to a conclusion that Bayless isnt a PG. Amazing that most here knew that after summer league 08. Its like.. really? We don't have a backup PG?

And our coach has no contract and neither does our supposed "franchise center"

Its only October 1st. Get ready for another year in Trailblazer land. What it must be like to go into camp with no major questions. See the Celtics, Bulls, Lakers, Heat... you know all teams who could win it all. Hell even the thunder have less questions.

I would put stock into it if it wasnt Jaynes. but thats just me.

Nah we all know bayless cant run the point. Im sure it has legs.

However that would mean.... rudy, wes, and bayless are all SG's who play behind a star SG which means limited minutes.

Not sure who to blame here (cho or kpee) but this roster is a cluster fuck of SG's, small PF's,and fragile centers with a vet PG who cant shoot to save his life.

The lakers have no major questions?

Andrew Bynums knee on line one...

well i would take bynum in a heartbeat over oden. least he plays sometimes.

and the lakers have won titles. the blazers cant win a playoff series.

He also misses chunks of games.

I love how you change your argument.

Seems like this is more of one of those cases where if a backup (not a Collison or Mo Williams who would be disgruntled playing 15mpg behind Miller) was presented to them, they'd look into something for Bayless to swap. Not like they knew Bayless wasn't a pure PG and have been trying all season to trade Joel's contract and Bayless for some high level PG to ride the pines.

I think they've just been "on the lookout" in case something presents itself, and we're going to likely see Batum play the Pippen-type role of point-forward and let Matthews and Roy be on the floor at the same time. At the end of the day, you have to have your best players on the floor and it's likely that Matthews is going to prove during training camp that you've got to give him minutes.

do the lakers have questions? yes. do they have many? no.

do the blazers have many questions? yes. have they achieved anything yet to make feel comfortable? no.

lakers have won so you give them a pass on their questions. the blazers are firing gm's, looking for pg's in october and have a center who shrugged hiS shoulders when asked if hes gonna be ready by xmas.

I can't wait until Bayless is traded and people here start asking "why didn't he do that in Portland"?

You know the answer, he's right in front of you with his arms folded.

Here's how I interpreted the article. MIXUM, your life must be depressing as hell if you view the points described by Jaynes with that pessimistic approach.

* I keep hearing the Trail Blazers are still on the lookout for a backup point guard. They’re trying all sorts of things in camp, including using Wesley Mathews a little at the point. But the ideal thing would be to make a deal for a seasoned player at that spot. --- POSITIVE
* We hope, by the way, that means they’ve finally come to grips with the fact that Jerryd Bayless isn’t a point guard. Finally. --- POSITIVE
* Nic Batum spent a lot of time at the end of practice two days in a row working out at the low post with Coach Bill Bayno. “That’s my game,” Batum said later. It’s a great idea. Do you remember how crazy it was last year against Phoenix in the playoffs when Batum was defending Steve Nash and Nash would get caught in a cross-match and not be able to get to his own man and be stuck guarding Batum? It drove me nuts that the Blazers never ran Batum down to the post with Nash on him. As long as they use Batum on point guards, this will happen at times — and it’s a good idea to be ready. --- HUGE POSITIVE
* They’re telling me Rudy Fernandez is playing hard and to me that’s all that really matters. --- POSITIVE
* Speaking of the Fan Fest, we’ll have that game tonight on Comcast Sportsnet beginning at 5:30. --- POSITIVE

Who, Brandon Roy?

Bayless is a 2G, or at best a combo guard, trapped in a PG body. He plays for a team with a roster stuffed with 2Gs, including one of the best ones in the league. If he goes to another team that needs the talents he brings and plays great there, more power to him. The important thing would be a matter of what the Blazers get back for him in trade and whether it makes the team better.

I think the Titles still winning has a lot to do with Kobe being better than Roy, and Pau being better than LMA... that could at least have tiny bit to do with it ;)

Meh. This is one of MIXUM's troll threads obviously.

the fact you have kpee as your avatar tells me all i need to know

Thanks, I saw it the same way. Bayless isn't asked to score 20 a night here like he might be able to elsewhere because we have one of the best SGs in the league. But what we really need to do is maximize the talents of players 5-9 on the roster, not 1-4.

I'm gonna assume that was directed at Tlong since the comment was right under him... and boy are you incorrect ;)

It doesn't bother me at all that the coach and center don't have a contract. They will get paid what they are worth when the time comes.

As for backup PG, I really doubt after 2 days of practice that they have decided much of anything.

since this got called a troll thread.... let me ask a few question$...

1. do we have a legit backup pg?
2. does our coach have any years left on his deal?
3. does the savior oden have a long term deal?
4. have the lakers won a title?
5. are the lakers in better shape roster wise?

again... how am i "trolling" ????????????

We have a backup PG. His name is Andre Miller.

What we need is a starting PG.

1. do we have a legit backup pg?
Have we seen anyone play this camp?
2. does our coach have any years left on his deal?
Many would argue thats a good thing
3. does the savior oden have a long term deal?
why is this concerning?
4. have the lakers won a title?
Yes many
5. are the lakers in better shape roster wise?
Yes they are very good
again... how am i "trolling" ????????????

I <3 you

love u too wheels!

but im very concerned about backup pg and backup sf...

How many times last year did we see the players play together as intended to find out if they can play together? Zero.

How many teams have one legit PG, let alone a backup one of quality? Hell I can tell you that both teams in last years finals, did not have a good backup PG. The Celtics played Rhondo the whole game and overtimes sometimes.

Who cares if Nate only has a one year deal. I am in wait and see mode with his coaching changes to see if it helps out and if it doesn't, I really don't give a shit if he hits the road.

Signing Greg to a contact right now is fucking retarded. Most centers who are hurt as much as Greg through their first few years in the league are gone by year 4. Robert Swift comes to mind immediately.

as for your last 2 questions, of course they are. They are the world champs. They are the team to beat until somebody beats them.

Backup SF is something I agree with you on.. I am concerned about it. If we kept Martell I wouldnt be as much. But I suppose Matthews can fill in the minutes Batum doesnt get. But I realized how thin we are at the 3 when Sly made that thread about Batum being hurt a few weeks ago.. we dont have much to turn to after him.

This is the definition of "trolling". You started a post, using some article as the excuse. None of your 5 questions listed here (except maybe #1) have ANYTHING to do with the article.

Just, you started yet another thread, so you could blather on, and do some more trolling.

I'm not overly concerned by the notion that they are looking for a backup point mostly because I think they are an Andre Miller sprained ankle away from having to rely on Bayless or a super green rookie in Armon Johnson. Ideally I think they need to find somebody who is an adequate veteran backup to fill the second or third spot, or they need to do a consolidation move with Bayless and Rudy as the primary pieces on the move (maybe they throw Williams in the mix too as trade bait?).

well then 1 counts then blazer baby. which means you are wrong.

I'm having a hard time figuring out who you are responding to without the quotes.
