Kang, 17, had three consecutive birdies on Nos. 5-7 at The Country Club of North Carolina.
Megan Khang of Rockland, Mass. -- one of three 12-year-olds in the field -- was tied at 70 with Summar Roachell of Conway, Ark., and Ginger Howard of Bradenton, Fla. Canada's Jisoo Keel had a 71.
