Tiger Woods wasn't thinking about missing a second consecutive cut for the first time in his professional career. He had his mind on the top of the leaderboard.
But when he finished his second round of the Frys.com Open on Friday, he was closer to the cut line than he was to the lead.
A 3-under-par 68 at CordeValle Golf Club should get Woods safely to the weekend with 53 players unable to complete the second round Friday due to a 2-hour, 20-minute fog delay. Woods finished at 141, 1-under-par; the projected cut is 1-over. He trails leader Paul Casey by seven strokes.
"The number was 64 today, that was kind of the goal," Woods said. "I figured if I shot 64 I'd be between two (strokes) and four back. That was my mindset going out."
It didn't work out that way for Woods, but he showed flashes at times, birdieing three straight holes at one point during his first nine (the back nine) but also hitting some poor drives.
