A poll was done on their website asking which position was improved. I agree that their mid-fielder position got upgraded with new additions and experience. In 2008 the whole team had more attack with scoring goals compared to the 2007 squad. It will be interesting to see the addition to more Oregon State alumni and another Japanese players added.
The MLS expansion news for our Timbers will have more people at the gates. It will be interesting.
I miss Hugo(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_Alcaraz-Cuellar) and Alvarez(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byron_Alvarez). Alvarez is still with his indoor professional squad http://laraza.com.mx/ which won the title last year. Both of these players were fan favorites as they hung out at the Bullpen (bar) behind PGE park after games.

The Timbers have a much deeper team this year. Should be a good season. Playoffs or bust!

We need another Josh Wicks quality keeper. That guys was huge two seasons ago.

Wicks is now with D.C.
Notes: The Timbers had 13 new players make their season debut Saturday in Vancouver … With the loss, Portland falls to 1-14-2 against the Whitecaps in Vancouver since 2001 …Among the 5,102 fans on hand Saturday over 150 Timbers fans were in attendance.
Thats impressive in itself. 150+ timber fans traveling up to Burnaby, BC.
Some of the roster.

Josh Cameron joins the Timbers for his rookie season in 2009.

College: Played in 73 career games for Oregon State University and totaled four goals and 11 assists. He led the Beavers in assists in each of his final two seasons, and his seven assists as a junior in 2007 paced the Pac-10. During his collegiate career, Cameron played defense, outside midfielder and forward. He was a two-time Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention selection. As a senior in 2008, he guided Oregon State to a tie for fourth place in the Pac-10.

A standout at Oregon State University, Farber returns to Oregon to play in his first season with the Timbers in 2009.

2007: Played in all 28 matches for the Minnesota Thunder and finished the season as the team's leading scorer with seven goals and three assists. Ranked among the top scorers in the league, he was named to the USL First Division All-League second team.

MLS: Played several Major League Soccer Reserve Division matches with the Houston Dynamo in 2006 and with the San Jose Earthquakes in 2004.

Indoor: Farber has enjoyed a productive indoor career with the California/Stockton Cougars. In four indoor seasons, Farber has collected 54 goals and 27 assists in 81 games.

College: Played his first two collegiate seasons at North Idaho College from 2000-01, and became became the school's career record-holder for points with 66. He transfered to Oregon State University for his final two collegiate seasons. Farber was named to the All-Pac-10 second team and Pac-10 All-Academic team as a senior in 2003.

I agree the Timbers look (on paper) to be a greater in depth in many positions. However, their offense always sputters at times especially in the 2007 season. It was one of the worst seasons I had to even witness.

The Timbers did really well in 2007, but sucked horribly in 2008, and came in last. Did you mean 08'? The offense wasn't that great in 2007, scoring goals mostly from dead ball situations and counter attacks, but the Timbers got results and made the semi finals that year.

I'm going there today (May, 2 against Carolina Railhawks) to check out the new squad and sit across the Timber Army perhaps. Or if my buddy is up to it, we will join the Timber Army!
Oh and I am also hoping that the Timbers score a goal too. 0-0 games are boring!
