You have a 6year 150 mill offer that expires in 1 week and then we move on and make it public so he feels the pressure. I for one don't wish to wait for this guy till jan sometime to make a decision. There can't be more than 2 or 3 teams that can make him a better offer. So tell him to shit or get off the pot. We need to start filling some open spots while the free agents are still unsigned.

...^^^ on one hand, I agree with you 29, because 6 years/$150 or a 7th year option with a $10 Mil buyout has been my guess for awhile now. But on the other hand, giving someone an ultimatum like a time deadline could backfire and tick the player and agent off and they could sign elsewhere for less money just for spite. I learned a long time ago that the worst thing you can do with an animal or a person is to force them into a corner because then they are forced to fight back.
...but I do also agree that there's probably not more than 2-3 who need a 2Bman and have the resources to acquire Cano. But to me it doesn't come down to whether they CAN spend the extra money, instead, I think it comes down to whether they WILL spend that extra money...and I don't think they will.

I have to agree with mrmel29. He needs to be told here is your offer, take it or leave it. But, I understand what 59 is saying that it could backfire and be something where Cano or his agent say screw it. Even if it backfires, it will be better to stand firm as an organization in the long run for future players... The Yankees bend over backwards and take it up the ass as a team far too often...

Would you feel like you "lost out" if SEA (or some other team) overpaid and gave a 9/225M or something to Cano, or would you say "too rich for my blood?" I know NYY is looking to get below the threshold this year, but I never thought they were a team (or fanbase) to worry about things like overpaying by 8 figures.

That's a fair question. Speaking only for myself, I feel the Yankees can't afford to lose Cano regardless. And that became more evident when the made the commitment to sign McCann. You don't spend that money on him unless your all in for 2014. The fear all along has been all it takes for one team to make an offer that is out of reason. Most feel the Yankees would like to give 6 years and 150 but I feel it will be around 8 for 200 in the end. We always overpay and many times bid only against ourselves. Do you see the Mariners spending? I heard you guys really want Ellsbury.Will you resign Morales?

Agree with MB, it's a great question. For me, it's more about the # of years... so at 9 years, I'd wish him luck and be thankful we weren't saddled with that noose... It isn't amount the $, but the years. I think 8 years is too much... I prefer 6, but would understand 7... anything more than 7 is a mistake for whomever gets him as those later years are going to haunt that team

Sides met today but the are still quite far apart on money. If Cano thinks he is getting that 300 mil from the Yanks they should just sign Infante and tell Cano to go fine that money somewhere else. There is nothing more annoying to me than a greedy athlete. As much as I hate the Red Sox I do admire what Pedrioa(sp?) did. He took less money to stay with the team he loves. Can you see Cano doing that? I sure don't. Doesn't he know the more money he gets the less money they will spend on talent around him? Which means less chance at a championship.

Yea, the Yankees don't ever seem to get the hometown discount with their players. Maybe they should change their policy of not negotiating new deals in-season - all it takes is one time to lose a player like Cano, and instead of drawing the line when they can still trade him and get something back in return - now? They might only get back a draft pick. Losing Granderson for draft pick is great - losing Cano for a draft pick is tragic. I'm not sure where this will go - still think the Yankees cave and give him $200M+ deal, but there's always someone out there. Thought Fielder got a deal totally out of whack, but there's the Rangers willing to take him off the Tigers hands. If someone is willing to take that deal, then someone probably is willing to give Cano a similar deal or higher, seeing that he is a much better player than Fielder.
Cano can either come to his senses and play and finish his career with the yankees for a ton of money or can get every cent he can and go play elsewhere. I don't give a shit about him then. This is not ruth or gehrig were talking about here. This is a talented lazy piece of shit whose numbers are good NOT GREAT and if it comes to it the yankees will be fine without him

It seems like Zduriencik is all over the damn board. Our infield is basically set with Zunino/Smoak(Morales?)/Franklin/Miller/Seager, with Ackley thrown in. We desperately need OFs who a) can actually play D better than 41 y/o Raul Ibanez (God bless him) and Mike Morse and b) someone with an ability to hit HRs. Right now Saunders is a half-hero, half-catastrophe. Ellsbury seems to me to be a great fit if healthy, and I don't see Morales coming back, even though I think SEA would like it and would make it worth his while. Corey Hart got some press a few weeks ago, and then dropped off, so I don't know if that's due to "super-secret negotiations" or just him not being a factor anymore.
Of course, after saying that, the rumors today are Beltran (old OF) and Napoli (old 1B).
Right now the M's have about 40M committed, and had a payroll of 84M last year and 118M 3 years ago. They just signed their RSN contract, so they should be getting bigtime cash influx. If ever there was a year to spend, this would be it. When your rotation is Felix/Iwakuma/Walker/Paxton/(one of about 4 young arms or a "2nd starter" type like Garza) and your infield is good, young and cheap, then tossing money at risky guys doesn't seem so bad. That's why I asked about Cano. Not that we particularly need a 2B (we need a 30HR guy pretty badly, though) and after striking out on Fielder (not enough years) and Hamilton (not enough years) the last two years, I could see a scenario where they do a package deal with Cano/Ellsbury and give them something like 45M combined over 7 years. Or just sit on their hands and end up with the James Loneys of the world and put Raul in RF for 130 games.
