Roy will test his hammy today and decide if he can play tomorrow vs Lakers. I think its really important we keep the streak vs LA alive. next year we likely only play once in Portland since we got 2 here this year and only one in LA.

Also we need Roy Tuesday and Wednesday. Both are monster games. OKC and the Suns are 2 teams who we will be fighting with down the stretch for playoffs. We really really need these 2 home games in the next 5 days. After Wednesday we have 27 games left. Thats not that many when you think about it. So today we need to hear good news about roy. Its making me as nervous as a big game. Last night when interviewed by David Aldridge, roy seemed pretty confident he would play. However Mike B seemed less positive in his blog.

I agree with Dwight Jaynes.... I don't think we can get by without roy much longer. With that said if roy has any kind of setback... obviously we wont see him till maybe late February and forget about the all star game. Outlaw would be back sooner IMO. Really big day for our playoff hopes. And hopefully bayless is ok as well and good to go for tomorrow!

It's not the biggest day, but yeah, it's important I guess.

I have no idea what to expect with Roy's hammy. I hear good things, I hear bad things. Yesterday I read that when he tried to run sprints a few days ago that he felt soreness/tightness and had to stop. We need our fearless leader to come back. So far we are 6-6 w/o Roy this season with wins against SA (2), Orlando, & Dallas. I'm in awe of that, but how long can it last? How long can we keep whistling through the graveyard?

There is a part of me that thinks if Roy can shake off this injury that it could be a blessing in disguise down the stretch. He's had a couple of weeks to rest and for all of the other nagging bumps and bruises to heal - he was clearly fatigued in the stretch right before he got hurt (when he was playing 40+ minutes every night)

According to MIXUM, every day is the most important day of the season, and if the Blazers don't win or everything goes right, done. Season over.

Broken Record Troll.

its not our season smart ass but if you want playoffs (and not excuses on why we didnt make them) then hope roy comes out of practice ok.

all the "next year" guys are such cowards. they all think that we automatically make the playoffs "next year" just cause we get old man oden back and joel who wont play till xmas. If the blazers are contenders then you wanna make the playoffs every year setting that tone and stop making excuses for injuries. The fact is we are missing our centers but by the break our whole team SHOULD be healthy. With the Grizz and OKC emerging mixed in with another lotto pick for the clips... playoffs next year are no lock by any means. Not to mention the kings look like they have a great young core. Dont ever push making the playoffs aside as a gimmie. Its a statement by the franchise to be a regular. Never give teams hope.

I agree with you Mixum- the return of Roy is the key to everything this season.

I also really think we could make a good run if KP would trade some of our young talent for a decent 5. Personally, I think Okafor is available given his huge contract and given that CP is down.

as opposed to brave MIXUM who courageously buries his head in the sand to avoid facts and reasonable arguments that don't fit his spiral of despair. It's contending for a championship that causes this fan to look to next year. Sorry that every estimate has Joel and Greg back months before the expert opinion pulled from your backside.

Playoffs? Playoffs!!! (ode to Jim Mora) I think they'll probably make that this year regardless of whether they continue their home streak vs the Lakers this saturday and even if Brandon has to sit for another couple weeks. Without their centers the overall upside of the club isn't what it was, but this is a pretty talented bunch that is playing well. They've hung in the race record wise and are adding back some of their better players. I'm enjoying the ride

I still maintain we don't see Roy in uniform until after the All Star break. We're going to have to gut it out until then.

the following doesnt sound very positive....

Brandon Roy said he hopes to play against the Los Angeles Lakers Saturday night, but he and the staff will exercise caution in making the final decision.

Roy will go through a more extensive practice today and then determine how his tender right hamstring feels after the practice.

Blazers guard Brandon Roy hopes to play against the Lakers Saturday.
"I’ve been going against trainers and stuff like that. (Friday) will be a good day to go against my teammates and try to make explosive moves to see if I can go out there Saturday," Roy said Thursday night. "(McMillan) said he’s gonna bring everybody in (today) and then maybe have about five or six guys stay and run plays with me. Just for me to try and get back into the team mode and just give myself a good chance to see where I’m at."

Roy, who has not played in the Blazers' past nine consecutive games and 11 of the last 12 while recuperating from a strained right hamstring, said the hamstring felt good enough after a workout that he considered playing Thursday night against San Antonio. However, both Roy and McMillan decided another, more rigorous practice was needed.

“He’s been doing some shooting for the last couple of days,” McMillan said. “(On Friday), what we’ll do is run him around in practice and run him through some sets. Maybe give him some three-on-threes."

Roy said he hopes to play, but he's not locked into stepping on the court Saturday. He learned his lesson after trying to play against Philadelphia before shutting it down after 18 minutes after experiencing pain. The guard said he wants to return pain-free - no twinges, tweaks or trouble - this time around.

"It’s not terrible, but I still feel something there. I just want to be smart. Even if it’s another week, that’s better than me trying to play, and setting me back for a longer time. Last time, I kind of rushed back," Roy said. "I just want to make sure that I’m ready to come back and play. Any time you come back and you have that happen again, it becomes mental, because I don’t want to go through that again."

I agree, I would MUCH rather have him miss a few more games and return after all-star break than risk aggravating it again and maybe missing most of the rest of the season. Unless he feels great I say err on the side of caution.

talk about up and down responses

My thinking is to keep Roy out longer and REALLY let his hammy heal. I'd like to have him 100% for the stretch run & playoffs (hopefully).

Man I am doubting playoffs right now. I just don't see it happening this year.

@blazerbanter

Wow. That's a serious mismatch. I assume Martell's team won?

It doesn't matter if Roy plays or not. We will beat the Lakers. We could start Mixum, bintim, Entity, BuzzKillington, and myself and we'd still win.

From those tweets...PLEASE DON'T PLAY ROY!

I agree.

Can I be the assistant team physician?

Every time I think the season is dead due to another injury, the team wins another few games. So, I think they're likely to remain like this the rest of the year: one of the contenders for a bottom-half playoff seed.

The thread title's prediction didn't come true. We didn't get a decisive answer.

I want badly to win the game against the Lakers, but not if it means jeopardizing our long term success this year (playoffs) and the years after. If Roy isn't at least 90% healthy, then I think he should rest. I would hate to see Roy aggravate his hamstring yet again.
