The healthcare system obviously needed reform, but unfortunately what we got was this hot mess instead.
 
I guess even on Capitol Hill, you had to pass it to find out what's in it.

As for the "brain drain" about which they're so concerned, I welcome it. Congress would be greatly improved by more elected official and staff turnover
 
Wow. Just wow.

Where are the Obamacare supporters to tell us how wrong this article is because Obamacare will actually lower healthcare premiums without adding a dime to the deficit, all while not raising our taxes.

Two things, is it possible that part of the problem is that they're getting too sweet of a deal under the old system?

Also, I had to laugh as I was reading it because I think we'd be better off if a whole lot of politicians quit or retired. The "brain drain" could be occurring in the home states as all those politicos leave D.C. and go back where they came from.
 
Wait a minute......... So Obamacare is actually a presidential scandal aimed at removing the current congress by means of their own greed? This president really is diabolical!

I don't think he cares about lowering costs. He's the most staunch liberal poster on this board, and has proven repeatedly he has no clue about economics, so I assume it doesn't make a difference whether it lowers both overt and health costs by going to one nationwide system. 320 million people on the same plan administered by the government. Single payer doesn't even work well in the UK, with only 20% of the populace of the US.

The same fools who passed the law that you support, you now want to be rid of because ... why?
 
A Fox-like "news" site, Politico, says that 2 Republicans, Sessions and Bonner, are worried that their fatcat staffers on the government gravy train will defect to corrupt rich man jobs where their health care is paid. Still avoiding the reality of the jobs the rest of us get in the private sector.

And Republicans are actually criticizing this instead of praising it? Well, Democrats will just have to try harder to please Republican crybabies, so they stop pretending to be offended every single day of their miserable lives.

You think I support every law that's been passed? Interesting, but very wrong.

I'm pretty tired of bickering between the parties and the general predisposition of our elected officials to politicize everything they can rather than work together to find solutions. Who knows? Cleaning house might alleviate the problem.

I don't want them to work together finding solutions. Most of the solutions they seek are about things that are not their business. The list of phone numbers of my girl friend, and business associates, Who I meet with or where I shop is not their business. I manage my healthcare just fine, but every time they make a change in the laws in that area, it screws me up.

I want them to read the Constitution and stay within the prescription of what is defined as their business. If they do this, there will be little to bicker about. I suppose you could say they should bicker about how much money to budget, but no one has purposed a budget within our means in years. If they don't fix that soon then we will not be able to pay the interest on the debt nor barrow any more, so their function will cease, Washington will have no function.
The State of Oregon will need evaluate the possibilities of viable associations.

Healthcare needed an overhaul...I'm not saying it's fixed by any stretch, but at least the process for coming up with a workable system has started.

Hmmm. I think Denny is going to love you, if he doesn't already.

Edit: Sorry, one thing that bugged me is the idea that I just want more rules, regs and bigger government (which isn't true). Sometimes the right thing is to do nothing and let the states handle an issue or let individuals handle it. Our government would be more effective if the various parties listened to each other and tried to find middle ground half has much as they spend their time trying to make the other guy look bad.

As I understand it, the current system is single payer, socialist-style, government-paid insurance, where the feds subsidize 75% of their insurance. FTA:
Currently, aides and lawmakers receive their health care under the generous Federal Employee Health Benefits Program. The government subsidizes upward of 75 percent of the premiums for the health insurance plans. In 2014, most Capitol Hill aides and lawmakers are expected to be put onto the exchanges, and there has been no guidance whether the government will subsidize those premiums. This is expected to cause a steep spike in health insurance costs.

So, rather than sucking on the government's teat, they will have to buy their insurance on an exchange (where private companies will be competing for their dollars.) They're insurance may not be subsidized at 75% by my tax dollars.

In other words, it's moving from a complete communist wet dream system to a more market-oriented system. And the conservatives/libertarians on here so despise Obamacare that they'd rather go the old communist route instead of a more market-oriented route for these lawmakers. *shrug* Down is up, up is down.
