You can get in trouble to sharing(uploading)files, not Dl'ing them, from what I've heard and read.

If you can't get in trouble for downloading stuff, why did I get an e-mail from Verizon telling me that when I downloaded the movie file for Away We Go I was breaking copyright laws?

Just curious but were you using Peer Block?

anything as common as web based torrent sites etc is ultimately bound to disappear due to being shutdown and/or get a lot of people into trouble. the fact people are getting emailed by their isps in regards to their downloads is a worry too. they are either monitoring your data streams or have been supplied access logs that link back to your ip etc.

i stick to FTP with ssl connection and sends - they're faster than torrents in speed and release time, but torrents are pretty useful for older more random things it seems, ive still never used one though. if i lost access to my sites id probably look at newsgroups as a 2nd option.

Peer Gaurdian2 or Peer Block, get it!

Comcast emailed me about an episode of FridayNL, I installed Peer Gaurdian (I now have Peer Block) and haven't recieved anything but my bill since.

I always use peer block when I'm dl'ing movies. Can't the IP still see that you're dl'ing or transferring huge files? Does Peer block prevents them from seeing what it is?

I asked that same question to the guy who told me about PG2 and he didn't know the answer. I think it prevents your hard drive from being scanned or something.
Anyone know?

They can see that you're d/l files but there is noting illegal about that. Now if you connect to one of their servers as a peer and they are hosting copyrighted material then they know what you're d/ling. That what Peer Block blocks. Connecting to fake seeds and preventing the copyright holders from connecting to you.

What does it do?
PeerBlock monitors each connection your computer tries to make with another one - and each connection other computers try to make with you - and then compares the other computer's IP address against a list of "known bad" IP addresses to see whether it should let this connection go through or not.

And "bad" means ones that are trying to track or trace your IP addy so it could be given to the copyright holder.

Have you ever looked at the ones they are blocking as you are BTing? It's interesting. It's countries and businesses who rent out spare server space.

I haven't dl much lately, but yeah lots of odd ip's.

After downloading a torrent file... what do I use to convert it to a useable file? (video in my case).

OK... but I cant transfer the torrent file into an mp4 or wmv?
A friend told me about that same VLC player a few months ago.

This is what is on the end of the file name:
[DVDRip].5465287.TPB

Did you d/l the link for a bit torrent from PiratesBay or the actual file to use. What are you using to d/l bit torrents, utorrent?

Uh... not sure.

LOL!

No problem BB. Go and install this program http://www.utorrent.com/ then go back to pirates bay and find the movie that you want to d/l again. Also make sure there are 100"s or 1000's of peeps who are seeds and peers ( that pretty much means the number of people who are sharing all or part of the movie you want for the movie you want.) It will make d/l'ing it a lot faster.

Let me know if you have any other problems. Glad to help.
