Just read on MLB Trade Rumors that Morneau to the Yanks is a fit. I guess so if the price is right but think that's more of an idea they're proposing than something that's been heard. Since both are impending free agents I'd consider a Hughes/Morneau straight up deal, but that also depends on if Pineda's return is looking like a reality.

I agree, a potential monster in Yankee Stadium, not to mention a huge upgrade that affects the whole lineup. "GIT ER DONE!, as they say in Atlanta.. As far as the cost, there is nobody on this roster with the exception of 4 or 5 guys that we will miss.
 
Dellin Betances has been quite good as a reliever I hear, so he can probably come up and be given a shot, if Joba is moved.

The problem is everyone is going to be offering relievers, it's not a hot commodity, so the buyers will not have to pay much, and Joba is not worth much anyway.

I'm not seeing this happening, Joba will be moved, but not for a McCann.

We don't moving forward but Morneau would only be a rental as he's a FA at the end of the year. Like I said, a temporary move that I would consider if the price is low.

Joba alone is not getting you McCann but he could be a piece since they are looking for BP help (according to the article). A righty (Joba) plus another piece - or should I say a player plus Joba as a piece - for McCann, who is also an impending FA and shouldn't command a lot in return.

There are moves out there if this team wants to be buyers for a run here…without mortgaging the future.

I was thinking of someone more permenant like FA Kendrys Morales. A 30 year old DH/1st baseman. Kill two birds with one stone. Fill in at DH & back up for Tex.

…even better Rick. Do Yanks have what Seattle is looking for? Outside of the Cliff Lee failed deal the Yanks and Seattle have a history of working together on deals. Does Cashman follow SportsTwo?
 
I would be ok with the yankees making some sort of move if it only meant parting ways with Joba and/or Hughes because they both suck and neither have futures on this team anyway. I would not like to see the yankees wasting even more of their farm or sacrificing anything of real value, especially for a rental player, as this team is most likely headed no where regardless.
 
I don't think they'll trade good prospects for a rental, and with so many questionable players coming off the DL needing good backups I don't see them moving much on the roster either, Joba and Hughes are probably it, maybe David Adams which would probably interest Atlanta if it weren't for his injury history.

Stolen from the reddit site, did anyone see the commentary on the yakees farm system in the latest top 50 poll on ESPN? Man its not looking good. Even the low level guys are not progressing. The yankees could be bad for quite a while. A revamping of the entire player development system and yes.....the long overdue ousting of this revolting GM is of paramount importance for the future of the team to look bright again:

What a dismal year for the Yankees' top prospects; Tyler Austin has struggled and is now out with a wrist injury, Mason Williams has been worse and Slade Heathcott has underperformed, while Ty Hensley has been out after hip surgery.

Sanchez is the best of the group but his stock has taken a hit as his receiving, much improved last year, has regressed, while his explosive hands and raw power haven't produced offensive results yet, either. He's a stretch to make the top 50 at this point, but I still see too much potential here, mostly on offense, to walk away from him entirely.
 
by the way...Morneau is not a very good player anymore. Typical cashman move would be to bring in someone 3 years past his effectiveness. I swear that guy is tuck in 2008.
 
Going into the 2nd half I'd like to see any move made that will improve the team. Pulling for Jeter to make a steady recovery, Mc Cann would be a nice addition, Morneau, not so much. The front office needs to wake up and smell the coffee, I don't think any AL East Team has a lock so a couple of good moves woulf really help.

This weak farm is one of the reasons why I don't think anybody should be safe, except for Sanchez and maybe Williams. They've done such a poor job of development that there's no reason not to use what pieces anybody finds value in to get decent returns that are at or below 30 years of age.

The current and future looking state of the Yanks is a bit scary but there's always the free agent market…seems to be the mode they've been stuck in for 10 years.

Lets do the math, McCann making 12M this season & probably looking for something around 15M+. The Boss's boys looking to keep salary under 200M. I don't see it happening. Remember this is Hal & Hank.............not George.

whether Hal or Hank go for it or not, the help we need is going to come out of our farm system. To bring this team back to respectability they MUST go the FA route.

...for the umpteenth time...a minimum of $110 Mil coming off the books after this year...and they will spend it. McCann's salary won't scratch what they will have available to spend in 2014.

...and if I recall, Hal and Hank spent a ton of money this past off season.

I'm sorry my friend I don't want to keep pissing off the elder statesman of the board. I'm just saying that if Hal & Hank are really serious with this crazy 189M limit, they're not going to be giving out to many high priced contracts. I mean I've got this really bad feeling that they're going to resign Granderson. (I hope I'm wrong) & you're looking at 20+M for Cano's new contract. Yes I know there's plenty left over after that but there's also another dozen players or so to fill out the rest of the roster. Just saying.
 
...The Steins have already conceded that the 189 figure may not be realistic and may very well not be attainable...and who said I was pissed off?...you implied that the Yanx would not go after McCann because of his salary...I merely pointed out that if the Yanx get a shot at McCann, money won't be an obstacle.

Of course I was joking on the pissed off remark. Hey You & I agree on McCann. I'd love to see him in pinstripes. And there's another player we'd both like to see in NY Kendrys Morales.
 
...I've kinda had my eye on Morales for awhile too...I really think the Yanx will have no problem reloading after this year. They don't have to hand out a bunch of 6 year/$100 Mil contracts. There are a lot solid players that can be had for much less and for fewer years...we just have to hope that Cash will spend the money wisely...that's the key. Closing your eyes and just throwing money at people has gotten us into the mess we're in now.

I did see that... I can't believe he fell from 18th to 49th... not good news...

relying on the FA market is what got us into trouble in the first place...
 
When George was spending money, more times than not, it was spent wisely. As long as it's not a panic signing, and logical, then the skies the limit. I will say that unless you are a Mike Trout, you don't see 10 year contracts anymore
 
I'd go 6 years. tops with Cano. But you just know that some team out there will offer him 7-8 years.

I wouldn't put much stock in that poll, it is ESPN afterall, I bet there are 10 Red Sox on the list, Mason has been red hot since late May, and because he was coming off surgery a slow start was not surprising, and Sanchez is still only 20 YO, and hitting pretty well this year, he's not the sudden bum that poll is implying.
