Interesting Forbes article:
Last Easter Paul Allen, owner of the NBA's Portland Trail Blazers, held the fate of his team in his hands. With the Trail Blazers scheduled to play in Seattle the next day, Allen--who lives just outside the city--invited his team over for dinner. Coach Nate McMillan decided to hold a practice on the NBA-size basketball court on Allen's estate and told the players that they were either going to run hard or take it easy. The determining factor: If Allen, the 55-year-old cofounder of Microsoft (nasdaq: MSFT - news - people ), could sink a free throw, the players could relax.

The shy and unassuming Allen was--per his custom--standing off to the side of the court, away from the center of the action. Allen was momentarily taken aback by the proposal but then picked up a basketball, strode up to the free-throw line, dribbled twice and coolly made the shot. "The players kind of went crazy," says Allen.
