PORTLAND, Ore. (October 15, 2016)The Portland Trail Blazers have waived guard Luis Montero, it was announced today by president of basketball operations Neil Olshey.

Signed as an undrafted free agent on July 9, 2015, Montero played in 12 games for the Trail Blazers as a rookie in 2015-16, averaging 1.2 points (26.3% FG, 11.1% 3-PT, 75.0% FT), 0.3 rebounds and 0.1 assists.

During the 2016 NBA preseason, Montero recorded three points (1-1 3-PT), one assist and one block in his lone contest against Utah on Oct. 3.

Portland’s roster now stands at 17 players.

Feel bad for the young fella.

But it does make me snicker some that he was waived because i know a lot of you have been on his bandwagon for some time now.

He is not an nba player and never was close to being so.

NBA Comparison: Qyntel Woods/Ricky Ledo

Strengths: Big guard with great versatility to play 3 positions ... Has logged time at point guard ... Explosive, smooth and creative player ... A good ball handler ... Can use a cross over at a high rate of high speed ... A good passer with court vision, always looking for the open man ... Smooth. Runs the court very well, excellent in fast break situations, often finishing with dunks ... Has a great ability to attack the rim with an arsenal of moves ... Can use the Euro step, change directions, fakes, finger rolls, floaters ... A good shooter from 2 and 3 points, with deep range and good mechanics on his shot ... The kind of player capable of creating baskets for himself and for his teammates ... Can drive to the basket and open the court and dish for shots for his teammates, or find the bigman under the rim ... Good shot blocker, with good timing , very smart playing the passing lanes, anticipates well and also in running the fast break ... Great length, with a wingspan of 7-foot-1, and a standing reach of 8-foot-8 ... Came into the draft proces weighing 181, and has added 14 pounds of muscle (195 lbs now) showing excellent dedication ...

Weaknesses: Lack of experience playing at a high level combined with his age (22) ... Needs to work a lot on his body strength, must continue to put a lot of muscle in order to handle contact at the NBA level ... His shot selection needs to improve ... He is an elite level player but hasn't learned how to play against elite level competition ... His body strength will be a problem in 1 on 1 defense, he can’t handle standard SFs at this point, and needs to learn to be more active on rebounds ...

Notes: Had his season with his Juco team cancelled in 2014-15 ...Considered a possible mid second rounder. Has worked out with a number of NBA teams and even received some late first round buzz ... Signed with Westchester Community College, after originally being classified as a Class of 2015 HS prospect ...

always sad to lose a younger player. hopefully his stint here might open up some doors for him elsewhere, if not in the NBA, then in another decent league somewhere in the world.

Good luck, Luis!

Not surprised, really. Didn't show much in Summer League and has played next to nothing this Fall.

Attention Pat Connaughton..... Attention Pat Connaughton!

Go east, young man! Well, East to Europe I mean.

Does Dinamo Zagreb have a team? Because that's as far "east" as I'd go. Seriously, you gotta be nuts to play for teams like Galatasary or Fenerbache. And I'm just talking about the fans.

This is good though. It goes to show that Neil doesn't fall in love with players like some of the fans do.

You just now realized that after he let wes, Rolo, and LA walk?

If you're gonna stick by your shtick, at least think about it before you say something like this. lol.

Guess he really loves Crabbe. Ah drat, shtick foiled!

I will now drink 2 watery, low-alcohol Miller Lifes that my sister pushed on me so I've been avoiding the ice box for days. Luis, this one's for you.

So is this one. Yuck.

This won't hurt my D-League ratings this year because I'll start building the reputation of Layman. I also hope to blank out entire quarters by interviewing Rice & Barrett, just like my heroes at NBA.com Summer League. Darkwebs abandoned me last year, but this season I'll flatter him long in advance to get those colorful first posts. It takes planning in advance to pull off a big project like this.

Okay, all Montero fans, bring your hiking staffs and follow me to the footsteps of Mt. Layman!

The Blazers sent me an email. That's how I found out.

That makes me the source. There was nothing to cite.

But it did give me as chance to humble brag that I get official press releases from the Blazers and you don't.

It's cute what they pass off as a "good dog, here's a treat" now.

I was talking about the source of the Nile. What, you thought I was talking about you?

Doesn't surprise me. He's a good prospect, I hope he gets a contract or goes to the NBDL and gets back into the league that way. It's sad that we're letting him go but I guess they chose to go with Pat and Jarret Grant instead, which is probably a good decision.
Go Blazers

If we cut him and keep Pat I swear... Pat can't do anything at an NBA level. At least Luis could kinda shoot and kinda dribble and had some length.

I don't see how we keep Steimsma or Quarterman.. But I don't think we should keep Pat either. I feel like our 15th guy is gonna be someone who's on a different team right now.

Bro....

Cut. Them. All.

Olshey is in love with his draftees. So he got Kaman and Aminu. He gave big money to Leonard and Crabbe when everyone thought he should let them go. He will keep Connaughton and Grant Jerrett, of all people.

His master plan remains unfulfilled, so he has offers out there for Travis Leslie, Trey Thompkins, Tyshawn Taylor, Jeff Withey, Marko Todorovic, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, and Daniel Diez.
