"Just 36% of Americans approve of the way Trump is handling his job as president; 62% disapprove."

He had one good thing going for him, the economy. And now the economy appears headed toward a recession. The stress must be immense. Maybe that's why he made the stupid remark toward the country of Denmark.

Because we were still running on the Obama economy and now all the stupid shit Trump did is kicking in. Farmers are fucked. Blue collars working in factories are fucked. Consumers are fucked. The rich are doing good though.

He shouldn't even be at 36%

“He’s kind of a bully, but I’ve seen some improvement,” said Mandi Mitchell, a 38-year-old registered Democrat from North Carolina. “Our unemployment rate has definitely dropped.”

Mitchell, who is studying for her doctoral degree, said she didn’t vote for Trump in 2016 but might in 2020.

“I’m not going to be too hard on him,” she said. “I just think he doesn’t address America properly.”

Seems to be alienating the voter-base which won him the election in the first place. At least the ones who took their heads out of their asses.

So we created a couple more jobs for every hundred people. Great! If only the blue collar workers who voted for him weren't facing layoffs in the future, which will be a product of this ridiculous trade war. Companies will try and keep their fixed costs low, and offsetting the impact of these tariffs will mean workers losing jobs.

And those who do keep their jobs? They'll be facing a recession anyway! Just in time for another democrat to come into office and try to solve that issue again.

And? No one thinks he won't get any votes. There are still stupid people out there :biglaugh::devilwink:

Mandi is a dumbass. Plain and simple.

Hey, I was just relating a quote from a person in the article Lanny posted. I don't judge.

Seriously....would Bernie beat Trump in 2020?

I don't think he would.

Easily
I think any of the top four or five Democrats would beat Trump. Of course, Biden has the best chance.
My favorite has taken a nose dive in the ratings while Biden has remained strong.
He's not my favorite nor would I rank him in the top four or five of my favorites but he's popular with other Democrats and more importantly with independents and old school Republicans. Also, Biden is not Trump. Good grief, I'd vote for Pence if my only choice was between Trump and Pence.

I don’t Bernie would win over moderates and independents. I think it again would be a case of those voting Bernie like they did Hillary.
This country isn’t ready for a socialist yet.

So would I. I couldn’t vote for Bernie like last time I couldn’t vote for Hillary. I’ll vote for the libertarian before Bernie.

There are a lot of stupid people out there.
My old party was stupid to nominate Hillary.
I would have voted for the Governor that ran against her.

Lanny, you and I were both high in Biden for the nomination several months back? Have you changed you thoughts on him?

It depends on how you define socialist. I think my definition is different than yours. To me, a socialist is just a half a step away from being a Communist except Communists are dictators.

No, I still like him. Actually, I like all the Democrats that were running and still are running. They all have persuasive points of view.
They all favor medical care for a lot more people than have it now.
They all favor restoring our respect in the world.
They all favor doing something about a climate that is running out of control.
They all favor a more balanced budget and less of a deficit.
They all favor more environmental regulation.
They all favor a woman's right to choose what goes on with her body, some more and some not as much more.
They all favor voting rights for minorities.
They're all in favor of not inciting violence.
They all favor more gun control than we have now.
They all favor treating our immigrants more humanely.
They all favor a path to citizenship for DACA children.
They all favor some investment in infrastructure.
They all favor letting the Fed. do it's thing without White House interference.
All of them that are Christian know a favorite Bible passage. I believe one is a Buddhist and one is a Hindu.
They all believe in helping the disadvantaged more than Trump. This is a particular favorite of mine because of my deep belief in (Matthew 25:40) 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'
They all believe in appointing people who have credentials in areas they would be responsible for administering.
They all believe in being fully staffed especially the State Department.
They all believe in the Constitutionally mandated Congressional oversight reponsibility.
None of them are well versed in how to insult people.
They all believe in the Constitutionally mandated emoluments clause.
These are a few off the top of my head. More keep flooding in but my time is limited so I'm gonna let it go at this.

Trump cultists will stick with him forever. He was not quite correct when he said he could shoot people along 5th Avenue and they'd still support him. He could shoot people along 5th Avenue and they'd say no shooting, fake news.

But the Trump cultists are around 30-35% of the voting population. He also go support from people who felt generally disaffected, and from people who believed that Hillary Clinton ate babies and worshiped Satan.

What interests me about admittedly early polls is that against various possible challengers Trump's numbers don't change; the differences are in the numbers the challenger gets. It's not people saying they'd vote Biden against Trump but Trump against Sanders.

53% of white women supported Trump, mainly due to non-college white women who favored him by 27 points. They now favor hypothetical opponent by 6 points. White non college men voted Trump by more than 70% and have been solidly Republican since the 70s. They are now evenly split. So he's basically losing everyone but his cult, billionaires who want tax cuts and don't care about anything else, white evangelicals convinced he was sent by god to get rid of women's rights and marriage equality, and hard core Republicans who want hard right judges and don't care about anything else.

I'd say that's pretty accurate.
