Uh, oh. Andre Miller not happy

Hey Andre, shut your mouth, stop shooting, and start passing, you big baby.

Well, all he's got to do is outplay Blake, and he'll be starting. If he can't do that, then he doesn't have much of a complaint.

It seems to me he expected to be handed the starting PG spot instead of actually having to compete for PT. Perhaps on the mediocre to average teams he is used to player for, that was the way things went for him.

So, is this quote for real?

If so ... wow!

Good grief. Some of this stuff is brutal . . .

. . . His first month in town hasn’t endeared him to the locals. The Oregonian reported Miller was the only player with a guaranteed contract who didn’t pass a conditioning test at the beginning of training camp. Miller admitted he didn’t pass the test – which required running baseline to baseline and back 10 times within a minute – by eight seconds, but he also said he wasn’t the only player that failed.

. . . “I know I didn’t make it,” Miller said. “And if I didn’t make it, there were probably two to four other guys that didn’t make it. And afterward, those guys came to me and told me that their times were fixed.”

The Oregonian reported Miller didn’t have a lengthy conversation with Roy during the first week of practice and Miller has been slow to discuss his private life with local reporters. When a caller to a Portland radio station said Miller didn’t sign an autograph for his son at a mall, that sparked further questions about his affability.

Wow. We haven't had any real drama like this in a couple seasons.

He is outplaying Blake (lots of folks were off last night). I think it's Nate saying stupid stuff like who's going to start and who isn't too early. If Blake starts over Miller I would be stunned. I must admit I'm a tad worried if Roy doesn't do well with Miller. Miller is so much better at getting Oden the ball and running the break it's like night and day. Roy is a master of the game and just needs to get out of his funk and find his groove again. My final thought on the "pre-season disarray" is that we need to sign Aldridge, and perhaps publicly fellate him so he can cheer up. A consolidation trade might be just what the doctor ordered.

Blazers get back the PG of the future and a couple of backups for Oden. Miller starts, Oden and Conley reunited. Outlaw gets closer to home and well Blake and Joel get kinda screwed but can leave next summer. Memphis gets young talent in Bayless and a steady hand at PG and a backup for Thabeet along with Outlaw whom they supposedly covet.

Even if you hate this trade, I do feel that there are too many ego's and something has got to give. Blake seems the odd man out along with Jerryd if we replace him with a youthful PG along with Travis. Joel I think will leave next summer when his minutes get tiny and money in Portland is locked up in the big 3.

This team may actually be too loaded.

EDIT: after reading more from Miller I'm not sure what to think...fixed times? WTF Nate?

I'd recommend that Miller would just shut up. Whatever trouble there is, keep it in house, even if that reason for that trouble is warranted.

There is no need to go cry to the national media now.

The only addition is a ball-dominating PG in Miller. Well, I suppose we can add an Oden who doesn't trip over himself and seems to have made major in improvements on offense.

I am also very concerned that he said he wouldn't have come to Portland had he known he'd have to actually compete. Tells me the guy isn't all about winning ...

Miller won't talk to his teammates, but he'll cry to the nearest guy with a pen and a tape recorder. I probably shouldn't be this upset about Miller's whining, but I am. I can see now why no one offered the guy as a top priority aquisition.

“If I was told right out when I had my meetings that I would be a backup, then I wouldn’t have come here,” Miller told Yahoo! Sports this week

As if you had tons of other teams breaking your door down to acquire you.

Yeah, I'm kind of concerned about this too.

And it appears he won't talk to local reporters about this either, but chooses to voice his concerns with a national reporter?

Those are all good points on Miller in your post and above. WTF?!?! I was all stoked about adding him and then I read this stuff and it blows my mind.

What do you guys think about the statement "Their times were fixed?" Does that have the ring of truth to you? Why would Nate mess with him like that? Is it possible Miller is bullshitting?

I also kinda cringed when I read KP's closing quote "Keep Portland weird, he'll fit right in." Not good. I'm not freaking out but color me mildly alarmed.

Miller >>>> Blake

Why is there an issue?

Because it's not just about who starts the games.

Jason Terry, Manu Ginobili, lots of players come off the bench as major contributors. There's no reason why he should be whining to the media about not starting. And to the national media at that. Even if he has good intentions, he just comes off as a whiny bitch.

This, from Quick's article a few days ago: http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindblazersbeat/2009/10/blazers_insider_mcmillan_faces.html

That brings us to Miller, the steady, heady and proven point guard. He too has said he intends to start, and the common refrain around the league is how can you sign a guy for $7 million a season and bring him off the bench?

For starters, McMillan said he was as blunt as he could be when the team recruited Miller during a Las Vegas dinner this summer. He told him then that he envisioned Miller coming off the bench, running pick and rolls with Oden and funneling fast-break passes to Fernandez and Webster streaking on the wings.

"The one thing is, I don't (mess) around with you in the summer," McMillan said, becoming stern. "When I tell you something, that is what I'm thinking. So when I told Andre that he was coming off the bench, I was for real. Now, he said he wanted to start, and I understand that. And there is a chance he could. I'm not saying we won't go there."

Miller, meanwhile, doesn't want the conversation to go there right now. He said he remembers what was said in the Las Vegas dinner, but added "that was in the past."

And the present?

"I'm not going to get all into that right now," Miller said before the game. “Both units can do both things — both units can go halfcourt, both units can run. So I don’t want to make a big deal out of it, it’s just basketball.”

Well Greg needing touches is pretty big, as is the addition of Martell. It's not just Miller who feels pinched it's quite a few guys I think. I feel like KP needs to consider a consolidation trade. If I'm not mistaken we are stuck with Miller for awhile are we not? Lame that Miller went to the national media first.

I still don't know what to think about that. It seems so odd. Either the other players were messing with him, and he's too much of an introvert to get it, or he doesn't understand that the times are based on the position that each players usually gets their time at, hence they are "fixed".

Just a weird (and somewhat troubling) article.

Yeah, you're right to propose a trade like that at this time. It won't happen though, because there is no way that KP is going to alter the team this close to the season.

I'm hoping we'll all look back and laugh at this thread.

Well, I believe the coach is being honest on this. It almost makes me think Andre used Portland to get a contract and then planned to force their hand to trade him later on

I don't really consider this drama and it is known that Andre doesn't talk to his teammates and doesn't let anyone in his personal life. That is how he has been his entire career. Not something that just developed when he came to Portland. People don't just change like that.

Anyhow, I wouldn't trip if we found some way to trade him. Maybe we should try to get Sessions from Minny now!

I don't consider this a big deal either. As long as they are still talking basketball, I'm fine.

Just win, baby.

Someone made a good point on Blazersedge saying that Quick was :stirthepot: by emphasizing that Miller didn't pass the conditioning test. Quick is kind of a tool and I could see how some of the "loner" article's would rub him the wrong way especially with ditto head fans repeating it at games.

So, did Quick also make Miller talk to Yahoo? Did he 'stir the pot' by mentioning how Outlaw failed in past years?

Oh, THAT'S right, it's Quick's fault.

I'm going to withhold judgment until the regular season starts. If we're not winning games and this comes up, then we might have some red flags.

Hilarious is more like it. Quick should just hide the quotes by Miller that he prefers to be alone, and he should have buried the information on the conditioning test given to him by the team.

Well, I feel better knowing it's Quick's fault. :devilwink:
