We all can point out the various areas that players across our roster can and should improve in order to elevate the team to playoff and eventually contender status. If you had the power, who would you want to target to bring in as an assistant coach to help develop the skills players badly need?
My picks:
PG: Gary Payton--no, I wouldn't expect Dame and CJ to become "mittens" overnight, but anything he could do to improve their defensive positioning, tenacity, and decision-making would be invaluable.
SG: Michael Redd--2nd round pick who parlayed limited athleticism with an excellent shooting stroke into an all-star career playing off the ball. Sounds like a great mentor for Crabbe and Connaughton.
SF: Bruce Bowen--the ultimate defensive wing who knew how to be just dangerous enough on offense to be effective. Who better to tutor Harkless and Aminu on how to be the perfect "glue guy"?
PF: Kevin McHale--The man was a magician in the post. If he could teach Vonleh a tenth of what he knows, he could be extremely dangerous. Davis and Alexander could certainly benefit as well.
C: Bill Laimbeer--He had Meyers' offensive ability and Plumlee's heart/hustle, plus was a stud rebounder. Seems like the perfect guy to improve the shortcomings in each guy's game.
