Underwater 'fountain' of magma is found beneath Yellowstone supervolcano sparking fears a deadly eruption is on the way

  • Experts found a column of hot volcanic ash beneath Yellowstone National Park
  • This 'magma plume' could provide the heat that drives the park's surface activity
  • The Yellowstone supervolcano experienced a series a mini tremors last week
  • Recent volcanic activity at the park has raised fears the volcano is about to erupt

If the supervolcano blows in 2018, let's all make sure to tell our descendents that the Blazers won the last NBA championship before all records of North American life were destroyed by the dread god. Let's make sure it's in the cave paintings and folklore.

I may need new glasses. Glancing at my phone this thread was:

Fountain of smegma found beneath mellow stoned supervixens.
I was under the impression that nothing was beneath those mellow stoned supervixens! Seems they'd enjoy a good old smegma bidet though!

I blame Donald Trump:

Researchers found a column of hot volcanic ash known as a magma 'plume' beneath the volcano, and they believe it stretches all the way from Mexico.

Fucking wall, the Cartel is already working on a tunnel.

I just came here to post that this is reason number 2 that I DON'T want a wall. So we could evacuate to the South.

Now it doesn't really matter.

There's a lake there that's been tilting more and more as the years go by. Makes you wonder what's going on.

Should we drill to relieve pressure and use it for geothermal energy?

It won't help. That would be like an ant trying to push over an elephant. The pressure relief would be so insignificant that it would be virtually zero help.

Read the article, NASA says it could help.

Think about it, even a normal volcano would be too much pressure to relieve and here we're talking about a Super Volcano.

Just for reference, a Super Volcano has about one million times as much magma as a typical volcano. Now, the Yellowstone Super Volcano is larger than the other Super Volcanoes.

I don't see any way of relieving any significant pressure for say, oh, I dunno, a million years? We need a whole lot more technology than we have now. How much is a whole lot more? Again, I dunno, but I know it's a whole lot more than we have now.

In the meantime, should we tap it for free or nearly free energy? Damn straight, we should. Just don't ruin the park, so, let the Super Volcano do that.
