Should the All Star game go to a USA vs The World format? I know a lot of people love the playground pick em thing but I think at this point US v World would be very compelling.

My second question is would the USA beat the world?

I think voting on starters would be fun and it would be interesting to see the bench that gets picked by the coaches. Maybe it's a way to infuse some new energy into the game.

Edit: Oh and this is totally me trying to distract myself and hopefully some of you during this Dame drama which has me feeling shitty about basketball right now.

I've been calling for this for a while every time we have a "How to fix the all-star game" thread.

No, changing to a “USA vs. The World” format would lead to shitty roster composition, IMO.

Maybe for the world team and I do think there is a bit more depth for the players born in the US, so some deserving people would likely get left off the all star team but that does happen already because of they still pick players based on conferences. That being said there are enough good foreign born players to field a competitive team against team USA.

How about young vs old? Divide the teams down the middle by years in the league.

Big vs small?

The players don't care about the game anymore, they should just cancel it.

People that complain about all star weekend are funny to me. What do you expect out of it.

Just fun. I think it's fun but I think that this wrinkle would add a little bit of competitiveness to it.

I don't think that the US v World idea is so ridiculous. In golf they have The President's cup I think it is that is USA v World and golf fans like it and golfers take it pretty seriously.

Yes. Absolutely more interesting than the current backyard pick ‘em format where nobody gives a shit about anything but showing off. It would make it a huge world event.

I think the world team starting lineup would be pretty amazing with Luka, Giannis, and Jokic, joined by probably Shai and Lauri, but they'd have very little guard depth.

Would make it easier for Sharpe to make a team though, so that's good. :D

The lack of depth would make it really competitive too because there's no way that the coach of team World would care about making sure everyone played and team USA would have to try to use their depth to run team World out of the gym... full court press, running and gunning and rotating in fresh players constantly.

It's a popularity contest glorifying everything bad about the game. I expect nothing from it. I pay no attention to it and I'm never disappointed by it...
