another PF who will want more than 15 mpg.. as a person he strikes me as a less annoying Birdman. If Joel was the asking price in a big deal.. then someone like this could be a good big to be a F/C

Lol! Bring Floppy doo to Portland? Beats the hell out of me. I just always wondered how many of those calls he got because he was teamed with Lebron. He always plays hard though, and his game is grunt work, which we need.

He will get the rebound.

lol Kelsey Grammar is EXACTLY the PF we need.

+1.

If Millsap were unattainable, then Varejao might fit in well in PDX? :dunno:
I'm not a huge fan of AV. A backup frontcourt of AV and Joel would be nice on defense, but totally jam up the paint on the offensive end.

Either way, I've been saying this for weeks when it comes to guys like Millsap, Boozer, AV, etc. These guys want more money and minutes than we can give them or they are worth to us. We need to spend our money on a starting PG who might play 30 minutes a game, not a backup PF that is going to play 12mpg.

AV wants big money. That's why he opted out. He's going to get a surprise in free agency, and I doubt we're going to get him.

Hate on him all you want but Varejao is a very solid big.
Just not as solid as our other 3 posts.

He'll be a great fit somewhere else, not Portland.

Why not? He's a banger type powerforward based on hustle. Isn't that why we want as a backup PF? I'd like him, but he'd cost more than we'd offer.

A guy like Bass is a better fit, would take less money, is more willing to accept a backup role at 12mpg, and is less likely to become a pain in the locker room.

...he brings a lot of intangibles that are crucial for a back-up bench player to bring to a CHAMPIONSHIP roster, hmmm :dunno:

He wouldn't play that many minutes so we wouldn't get that horrid combination for more than a few minutes a game.

There's the rub.

Good player, but he wants starter's $$ and starter's minutes.

What like you didn't learn from the horrible few minutes a game while Frye was here? Comon man. If all we do is exchange one bad fit for another, it sucks. When Frye was in there was no post game, and no hustle. Now we would have hustle, but no offense, not even the outside shot. Varejo can only score when completely set up for it.

The other thing I would be concerned about is his flopping. He got away with it in Cleveland a lot because he was teamed with Lebron James. I am not so sure that would go over if he played here, because of the double standard of NBA reffing.

Frye's problem was that his "strength" didn't become a strength. His shooting abandoned him, and he couldn't do much else. That's why he failed.

Varejao actually has some post game. He plays with hustle all the time. Could that end up abandoning him here too? Possibly, but in theory he fits.

Except for one thing. I see his game is a duplicate of Joels, with slightly better hands. There is only so much room in the key for operation. His game has to vary some. Either he has to like attacking from another side of the hoop, a different section of the floor, or we go to a system where the guards take all the shots and Joel and Varejo just crash the boards and play D.

See it reminds me of the Atlanta Hawks. The Atlanta Hawks are often criticized for having too many guys that do the exact same thing, and there are only so many spots on the floor. I don't want to have that problem.

Who, Varejao? Not at all similar. Varejao can actually shoot, but Przy is a MUCH better rebounder and shot blocker.

Sorry but your dead wrong. If Varejo is shooting a jumper the other team has pushed the offense right into what they wanted them to do. Watch them on D. Varejo takes chareges. Joel takes charges. Yea Joel is better at blocking shots, but if you actually read my post, you would note I was talking about the offensive end of the court. Who would ever give a shit if 2 guys games defensivly were the same?

So Anderson whats your defensive game? Playing post and paint defense.

So Joel whats your defensive game? Playign post and paint defense.

How would those ever differ if they were both physical big players? They wouldn't much.

Now that you understand I was talking about the offensive end, yes their games are similar in that they have to be set up. If Anderson Varejo is taking a jumper, your offense broke down and your team failed. It is that simple.

My point is that Varejao does take jumpers and makes some. I'm not sure Joel took a shot outside of 6' this season. I don't see their offensive games as similar at all. Joel can't help you when the offense breaks down. Varejao shoots 53% with some 15' jumpers in his repetoire. If anything, Cleveland should have incorporated Varejao into the offense more often.
