very quick question

i've gotten this to work b4, but i cant right now.how do you erase the background so you get the checkerboard?right now im erasing to the white and cant seem to figure out how i did it before down the the transparent thing.HELP

look on the right there is a panel that says all your layers and stuff just erase all your layers except for your background layer by right clicking and hitting delete

ok, what if i jus opened a pic of a player so its one layer and i want to erase the background so i can layer just the player onto a sig or whatever. how do i do that. im feeling dumb right now, cuz i've been able to do this before, i just cant do it right now.

do you mean how do you crop around a picture?I just take the magnifying lens, zoom in a couple clicks, then use the polygonal lasso tool all around the player til I get back to where I started, then copy that layer.

rrrrrrrr, out of nowhere now im erasing down to the checkerboard thing.....wtf how? i dont know what i dont and i want to know to make it easier in the future.and BTW i save the erased player as what file type to make sure the background isn't there...?

I am trying to use the eraser to erase the background of a player and im not sure how to do it. Usually when i'm trying to erase it I can only erase down to the white background, you know. But you need to erase down to the transparent background (the checkerboard). Im just needing to know how you erase down to the checkerboard. I got it to work but i dont know how, hense the rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. BTW its pretty important since i need to make something for my friends birthday tomorrow, so if you can help me out how to erase that background, i'd be greatful.

apparently you have the checkerboard layer, a white background layer over that, then a picture layer over the white background layer. Delete the white background layer between the two and you will see the checkerboard background.

I want to erase that background. When i select the eraser, and erase I see white. I want to see the checkerboard. I need to figure out how. I accidently get it to work right, but i dont know how exactly, and i need to cut out two more players before the days is over.do you get what im trying to ask at all...

yeah I do, read my last post, the reason why you see white instead of checkerboard may be because you have a white layer sandwiched between the checkerboard layer and the picture layer.Open a new PS window and make sure you start with a transparent background, it is one of the options.

Do you know anything about layers? That might help to understand layers before you work with PS.
