Wondering which one of you NER......... errr......... hip cool guys has video game hookups? I am finally breaking down and getting The HCP Jr. an XBox and was wondering if any of you GEE.......errrr....ladies' men who don't live with their moms or play D&D.....out there had recommendations or hookups. There seems to be a bunch of different kinds and I have no clue which way to go. Holler!

make sure you get an Xbox 360 and not an XBox.

Easy to tell the dif I hope!

If one is big and bulky, it's an Xbox. the other isn't.

Think of this way.

Think of yourself as an Xbox, and think of the last guy your wife had sex with as an Xbox360. Get the one that finishes the job, and actually is useful.

^That was actually very funny you prick!

Black Ops 2? I hear that and assassin creed are good games.

Good news is you can pick up a Kinect holiday bundle for only $250. Pretty good deal since you're getting the Kinect which is an optional add-on plus some games for only about $50 more than you'd pay for the barebones system. Check the package to see if it comes with two controllers if you want to play with him or if he has friends come over.

Dunno how old your kid is but he might enjoy the Kinect. If he is very young, Kinect Sesame Street TV has good reviews, as does Dance Central 3. If he is a little more mature Need for Speed: Most Wanted and NBA 2K13 (not Kinect exclusive) are also well rated. Keep in mind these are Kinect games. If you opt for a bundle without Kinect, avoid them. Some games will have Kinect on the front of the box--it doesn't necessarily mean they can only be used with Kinect, but rather some will be Kinect compatible. Ask the guy in the polo shirt.

Keep an eye out for the game rating on the box. M is equivalent to R for movies. Halo 4 has an M rating but it's more of a soft M. Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed both have warranted M ratings.

The top rated kid-friendly regular Xbox games right now are NBA 2K13, FIFA Soccer 13, NHL 13, Batman: Arkham Asylum & Batman: Arkham City, Portal, Burnout Revenge, The Secret of Monkey Island, and all of the Guitar Hero/Rock Band games (require instruments). Some of those aren't new so they won't be full price. Something like Burnout Revenge or Monkey Island could be under $20.

Bad news is in about 12 months the Xbox 360 will be obsolete. Doesn't mean he can't keep using it but if every other kid is getting a new one you'll be hearing about that. The next Xbox will probably also be considerably more expensive--likely $400 or more. Haven't heard yet whether games will be backward compatible (play old games on new system). The 360 was but it usually made for a lousy experience.

I let my 7 year old play those M rated games cause I'm fucked up in the head. I usually take him out for beers after he chops off some of the heads of his enemy. I make sure he cuts his victim's ears off and wear em like a necklace.

I'm preparing for the end of days December 21st. My 7 year old needs to know how to kill fools!

Dont do it! XBox is the devil and turns kids and teenagers into vile evil nasty little things....... However the threat of taking it away for a night or longer carries a lot of weight in the disciple department.

Bro don't buy one this year, the new ones are coming out next year.

Have you seen that show about teenagers that murder? I think there was a story about a Pastor's son getting addicted to HALO and the father took the game away. Later the teenager went into the father's safe and took the game and his .38 special.

He went to his parents in the living room and told them to close their eyes because he has something special for them. The father said he closed his eyes and felt the bullet hit his head and he blacked out. Then when he came too; he saw his wife shot 5 times and dead.

No I haven't. Terrible story with a lot of other variables Im sure. I was more referring to how obsessive and unruly they will be about the xbox, we have had so many stupid battles at our house over that stupid thing. There is a parental timer function in the settings that I would recommend to set boundaries with early.

I have had a 360 and a PS3 for about 3 years, and I prefer the PS3. The XBox is starting to have problems and the PS3 is still going strong, even though the PS3 has been used about 3X a much.

I don't play on-line, so maybe XBox has it over PS3 in that respect.

Black Ops II is pretty cool, but way to much story line between levels.

Good to know. And ps3 has a blu-ray player, 360 does not, correct?

Kids like Xbox better because of the online play with their friends.

Sorry, but I don't know about the blue ray. Also, regarding on-line play, I think one requires a membership, and fee, for that and the other doesn't. (But I don't know which is which, since I don't play on-line.)

Fwiw, you can only get Halo series of games for XBox. I think you can get most PS3 games in the XBox format.

If you are giving to kids, there is a small distinction that some parents find a little comfort in. With Halo (XBox), the kids are killing aliens, not people. With the Call of Duty series of games (including Black Ops I and II) the kiddos are definately reeking death and destruction on people....with more than adequate blood and gore.

I like xbox because that means there are less annoying children playing on the pc and ps3:cheers:

Speaking of Black Ops 2.... Has anyone played this yet? I heard it's supposed to be the best first person shooter ever made.

My boys love it. I've only played the campaign for about an hour and I liked it.

oldguy- there is a parental control option for Black Ops 2 that eliminates some of the blood etc and bad language.

All you need is Black Ops 2 and your son is set for a year.

....Until Modern Warfare 4 comes out next fall.

PS3 is a Blu-Ray player but you can buy a Blu-Ray for $70 now so it's not really that advantageous anymore. The system-exclusive games tend towards more adult fare so it shouldn't really be a concern. PS3 has free online play which is good and bad--you expect better service from Microsoft since you pay for it (about $50-60/year) and it weeds out some of the people who just go online to fuck around and ruin games.

If you're not planning on using online features than 4GB is enough storage. Downloading games and such takes up space so you need a decently sized hard drive if you are planning on online use.

Again, the campaign modes of Call of Duty and Battlefield and similar games include torture, murder, gore, cursing, etc., so it's up to you if you think your kid can handle that. There are plenty of games out there that are less aggressive. And I can't stress enough that if you go online with games like COD you will be bringing YouTube comments to life.

As I noted above, it's a really good game, but you have to watch a LOT of story line between levels. Black Ops 1 is the same, but not quite as bad.

If you think BO has a lot of storyline, i would wonder what you would think of games like Skyrim or Dragon Age.

How do I get into the controls for Black Ops 2 on the PS3? My son plays and I would love to tone it down a bit.

I couldn't say. I've never played them. If there is even more sitting around, listening to the same thing each time you play through the game, I wouldn't like it at all.
