I picked up this hideously awesome hat recently. Any guesses on how old it is?

You should spend a lil money on it and get it all pressed and crisp. Can that even be done?

I'd say its less than 10 years old. I don't think its vintage, I think they just put some patches on a trucker hat tbh.

I'd say sometime in the 80s. They switched to the tilted pinwheel in 1990.

The generic font is no help. I don't recall them ever wearing something that bland on the uniforms. Plus, it all upper case, the exact opposite of the all lower case they used from 1970 - 1991. They did switch to all caps in 1992, but it was a totally different font that was angled, and the unis at that time simply said BLAZERS (no PORTLAND and no TRAIL).

Might not be an officially sanctioned team product... cheap knockoff?

That's what I was thinking, too. Along with the fact that the letters are all uppercase case as BNM pointed out.

Yep, both the upright pinwhell and all uppercase font have appeared on Blazer uniforms, but never at the same time.

So, probably not an officially licensed product, but it's still cool and has a very 1980s vibe to it.

It looks home made

Is there any kind of tag inside that lists the brand name of the manufacturer?

Yeah it's just patches put on a hat. The patches are older than the hat.

It's hard to see from the pic, but the trucker hat itself is almost definitely 80's. It's a really weird synthetic that they definitely haven't used in a long time. The front isn't cloth at all.

Good Call!! It is AJD. I Googled and came up with a Steeler's hat that looks like it was made with the same cheesey embroidery/adhesive technique as the Blazer hat. Even the stitching and the places they used the colored thread match. Looks like it's "legit" (meaning made by a company/not some random dude in a basement).

**Update- I realize I'm probably way more interested in this than anyone else in the universe... but I just found an AJD that even matches the stripe pattern.. It's from somewhere between 1975-1980, so that's when I'm guessing the Blazer hat was made as well.

There's your vintage AJD NBA Superstripe Portland Trail Blazers cap in the top left. It's definitely vintage.

Although there is no date on the ad, it would have been from the period between 1976-77, when the league added four franchises from the defunct ABA (Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, New Jersey Nets and San Antonio Spurs) through 1979-80. Those were the only four seasons in league history when there were exactly 22 teams. Prior to absorbing the ABA teams, there were 18 teams in the league, which grew to 23 teams for the 1980-81 season with the addition of the expansion Dallas Mavericks.

Your internet sleuthing skills are amazing!! Thanks so much. I'm hoping the late 70's mojo is good luck.
