The defending NBA Development League champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced Wednesday that acquired point guard Jason Horton (6-2, 190, Missouri) from the available player pool.
Horton takes the roster spot of Jerel McNeal (6-3, 200, Marquette), who earned a GATORADE Call-Up and signed a 10-day contract with the New Orleans Hornets earlier in the day.
Horton opened the season with the New Mexico Thunderbirds, for whom he averaged 4.9 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists in nine games (seven starts). Horton scored a season-high 10 points on December 10 at Iowa and dished out a season-high 11 assists on December 7 against the Vipers at State Farm Arena.
Horton spent all of last season with the Thunderbirds, averaging 3.8 points, 2.2 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 50 games (18 starts).
The Vipers roster stands at 10.
