What should the Blazers do with the #3 pick

  • Total voters
    48
  • Poll closed .
yeah yeah...I know you don't like multiple options, but there should be an "it depends" option, and it would have the most meaning

so even though I can't intelligently choose without more info, I'm going to vote trade it just because of how incessantly the "trade Dame" crowd has carpet-bombed the forum since the lottery. It's a protest vote

Where is option C…… I like both A and B. I can’t make up my mind, I kind of want Dame to make the decision after we can’t find a good trade that makes us a contender lol

Depends on what the best offer is.

  • Giannis for #3, you do it all day.
  • OG for #3, you keep the pick.

Well agreed. But assuming those aren't available, then what do you think the best path is?

So then 90% of people vote it depends. Those results wouldn't tell us much of anything.

Having to choose might tell us how happy posters will be of either outcome.

There has been a narrative that Blazers fans overwhelming want the team to trade the pick to win now with Dame. I've been surprised to read a lot more support from those who want to keep the pick than I expected.

It appears Dame prefers the team trade the pick even if they receive a poor return, but that's a bit of assumptions and speculation on my part.

Maybe his opinion will change if he likes one of the prospects as he did with Shae.

I’m sure he’s going to be heavily involved and hopefully understands if trading our top pick doesn’t bring us elite player back then we aren’t trading it. That’s up to Cronin to have that tough conversation. If Dame wants out at that point you oblige to a contender that can give us the best return

It would be prudent of management to let him know about the guys they like, which I suspect they will. Unless they pull off an all time swindle of a trade, Portland isn't contending for a title next season. If he wants to be here, the only rational view for him and management is a couple seasons out at a minimum

STOMP

Yuck, if that's what we end up with, it'll be a major disappointment.

here’s my thought with Siakam would make us 1 player away from having a great team maybe Nurk and future draft picks can get you that last piece.

dame (all star)
Sharpe (hopefully borderline all star)
Grant (20 point scorer)
Siakam (all star)
Mystery player maybe Ayton (borderline top 3 center in west) Phoenix gets 4 1st rounder picks back for future since they gave up all theirs to Brooklyn (this is an all in type move)

Long athletic team that competes in West maybe not 1st year but possibly in year two. Have to fill in with some vets but that’s a solid team as long as Sharpe makes the jump to borderline all star.

would I do this I don’t know but it’s going to take this type of play to make us contenders.

instead of Siakam you could even consider Kawhi who is superstar when healthy again extremely risky

I just see this core, even with Ayton who's contract is very hard to match, not being close to a contender. Giving up four first rounders for him is ludicrous.

It also has much less upside than just keeping the pick.

Plus it'll have major salary cap problems, so it's difficult to add any other pieces in the following years. It's not good defensively.

There are so many combinations of assets I would trade #3 for and signficantly more that I wouldn't trade #3 for.

I have no clue how anyone could pick one option being better than the other without knowing what the best offer is, or will be.

I would be very surprised if Dame would prefer the Blazers to make a trade that yielded a poor return. I certainly haven't read him say anything that says as much, though I see this type of narrative popping up more and more. I guess it's the off-season...

I say keep the pick. Then Damian and the podcasters can continue to blame the 19 year olds when the Blazers lose, after the starters shoot like crap and didn't play any defense. Easy excuse, inexperience, let's go get another top pick.

I would lean no on that, unless there was another move that signifcantly upgraded the roster as well. You?

im torn I would love to Siakam, Grant, Dame and Sharpe together but it still doesn’t feel like enough and if you can’t put that final piece in there I don’t think that’s championship team.

If you get OG to go with Siakam in a deal, you have a shot to make some serious noise.

If you get Claxton to go with Bridges, I would say the same.

There are no super teams. Plus , the Blazers will try to add additional depth to the bench, with an eye on a knock down shooter. At that point health, like with every team, is the deciding factor. Siakam or Bridges as the main player in all this immediately makes the Blazers a player.

Going to one fun watching Joe & Chauncey engineer a contender in a couple years.
Dame will be able to play into mid to upper 30's easily. Besides todays 33 is yesterdays 28, especially the way Dame stays fit.
Year after next we are playing for WC crown, I just got back from a fortune teller, that works with Barfo. Nice looking winch too.

I think Ayton might be nice piece, Paul George, Bam, Kawhi, or a player close to that level. Would have to go all in tons of draft picks so sacrifice future for all in now. Couple of high risk players there with each having issues or concerns.

not saying I would do this just saying this is type of deal you need to make if you want win now
