Gee, what a shock. Another phony "hate" crime. Stuff like this lessens the impact of real hate crimes. Sick thing is that this woman actually accepted money from people after posting he phony baloney story.

The New Jersey waitress who claimed she received an anti-gay message in lieu of a tip has been suspended pending an investigation.

Dayna Morales, a waitress at the Gallop Asian Bistro restaurant in Bridgewater, N.J., said that a couple who ate at the restaurant paid their bill but left no tip, saying "I'm sorry but I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle and how you live your life." Morales is gay.

However, the couple later came forward and provided their copy of the receipt to counter Morales' charges. Now, the restaurant has suspended Morales pending its investigation into her conduct.

“Ms. Morales is currently not on our employee schedule while we are still working to complete our investigation," the restaurant wrote on its Facebook page.

Both the husband and the wife who ate the meal strongly protested the allegation that they left an anti-gay "tip," with the wife noting that she is left-handed and does not write like the receipt indicates, and the husband saying he did not vote for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie because of his opposition to gay marriage. Morales, in turn, has said the handwriting is not hers.

In the wake of the incident, Morales has drawn criticism from her co-workers. Morales, a former Marine, was reportedly given a dishonorable discharge from the Reserve Corps in May for failing to attend drills.

The restaurant confirms that a tip of $18 was left on this bill and charged to the card. Not only did this chick slander and libel her customers, but they also tipped her at damn near 20%, which is definitely not an insult.

I had heard that the restaurant was in on it. They denied that the receipt was false until local media showed them the bank statements. I had also read somewhere that the restaurant wasn't very successful until after the "hate crime." After that they were packed with people who wanted to support the business. The whole thing stinks.

The couple who left the tip should sue the hell out of that restaurant for slander and/or libel.

Since their identity was not revealed, where's the slander?

The real crime is that tips are considered wages and are taxed.

The restaurant knows who they are, I assume, since they accepted their credit card.

It's a custom to write comments about the service on the backs of restaurant receipts, but very few (picky, snotty) people practice it. The receipt pictured asks for a rating to be written onto it. The price indicates that it's an expensive place.

Is it a crime, maybe fraud, to receive donations after a false claim of victimhood? I don't know.

isn't the customer copy a different copy than the merchant copy? I always get two copies (and they don';t use carbon copy).

Not saying the wait staff did it. The bank statement (of the 20% tip) is a weeeeeee bit condemning.

Now the woman's 'friends' are claiming that she lied about having brain cancer at another job, and soliciting funds for treatment.

The Journal News, a sister paper of the Courier News, reported Wednesday that Morales has been caught in multiple lies, telling co-workers she shaved her head because she had brain cancer and later telling them it was her friend who had brain cancer, her colleagues and friends said.

They said she also told co-workers at a daycare center where she once worked that Superstorm Sandy severely damaged her home in Stony Point, N.Y., and sent a boat into her living room. Concerned co-workers dropped by her home and found only minor damage to the carpet by her front door and no sign of a boat, they said.

High school acquaintances and former colleagues of Morales said the revelations this week confirmed their suspicions about Morales’ original story. In the past, Morales has sought sympathy from friends and co-workers through questionable stories, said Julie Howat, 23, of Pomona, N.Y.

she's a winner

I'd like to say that I do not approve of her lifestyle either. I simply cannot support lying scumbags.

I was actually going to post a fake one of these on Instagram.

"You're Asian so I'm giving you an extra $5 tip". Just on the customer copy that I keep though.

Another hustle exposed.

HuffPost’s Gut-Wrenching Poverty Editorial That Went Viral a Hoax

In October, Linda Walther Tirado wrote a painful and heart-rending entitled Why I Make Terrible Decisions, or, Poverty Thoughts, which chronicled her struggles with near abject poverty. This week, the post was republished in The Huffington Post where it spread like wildfire across the internet and made the jump from the web into cable news. On Tuesday, however, it was revealed that Tirado’s claims were a dramatic exaggeration.

Tirado began with a variety of horrific tales of her struggles with poverty. She detailed how poverty is self-perpetuating and being poor results in poor decision making, resulting in a destructive spiral from which it is near impossible to escape.

"I make a lot of poor financial decisions. None of them matter, in the long term. I will never not be poor, so what does it matter if I don’t pay a thing and a half this week instead of just one thing? It’s not like the sacrifice will result in improved circumstances; the thing holding me back isn’t that I blow five bucks at Wendy’s. It’s that now that I have proven that I am a Poor Person that is all that I am or ever will be."

“You have to understand that we know that we will never not feel tired,” Tirado continued. “We will never feel hopeful. We will never get a vacation. Ever. We know that the very act of being poor guarantees that we will never not be poor. It doesn’t give us much reason to improve ourselves.”

“We don’t apply for jobs because we know we can’t afford to look nice enough to hold them,” she revealed.

Tirado’s republished confessional in The Huffington Post received more than 4 million views and was featured by MSNBC host Touré. He was clearly moved by the plight of this woman.

“Poverty is sticky,” the MSNBC host opined. “It clings to you, leaves physical markers on the body.” He singled out a portion of Tirado’s essay that was particularly sympathetic.

"I have missing teeth and skin that looks like it will when you live on b12 and coffee, and nicotine, and no sleep. Beauty is a thing you get when you can afford it and that’s how you get the job you need in order to be beautiful."

“When so much politics is about battling over whether to give one more crumb to the poor or give them none, we are going in the wrong direction,” Touré asserted.

But an investigation into Tirado’s background by the Houston Press’ Angelica Leicht revealed that the blog post’s author is a private-school-educated Democratic activist who wildly exaggerated her circumstances. She owns a home as the result of her parent’s generosity. She has worked in politics since 2004 and has called herself a private political consultant since 2010.

She’s married to a Marine, has met President [Barack] Obama while interning for a politician (who obviously wasn’t disgusted by those rotten teeth), and has plenty of time to visit Las Vegas on vacation. And blog about her privileged life on WordPress.

She speaks both German and Dutch, and has a well-rounded political blog that ended in 2011. It’s also a blog where she quite plainly references being paid to win races.

After being revealed as having greatly exaggerated her living standards, Tirado took to her GoFundMe blog to confess. National Review’s David French flagged her admission of guilt:

"And that is the answer to the question many of you have asked. How is it that someone with such clarity and evocation has any right to assert that they are poor? It is likely untrue. Well, it is and it isn’t. You have to understand that the piece you read was taken out of context, that I never meant to say that all of these things were happening to me right now, or that I was still quite so abject. I am not. I am reasonably normally lower working class. I am exhausted and poor and can’t make all my bills all the time but I reconciled with my parents when I got pregnant for the sake of the kids and I have family resources. I can always make the amount of money I need in a month, it’s just that it doesn’t always match the billing cycles."

Tirado’s tale of deprivation is far sexier than the truth and the myth of her trials will likely persist for far longer than the reality of her comfortable middle class existence. One wonders if commentators like Touré will correct the record after having promoted Tirado’s story or if he will simply let the lie stand and suggest that her account may not be literally true but he is certain that such a story is true for someone.

The latter is far more likely.

Well I'm surprised. All the back stories about her seemed to point to an honest, hard working person.

I'm at a loss.

Since their identity was not revealed, where's the slander?

The real crime is that tips are considered wages and are taxed.

Seeing as how most cash tips are never reported, a great portion of tips are never taxed.

Congratulations, PapaG. Your 2 or 3 anecdotes prove that there is no poverty. Keep 'em coming. After 12 or 13 anecdotes, you will have no doubters.

All Republicans should quit their jobs, since they believe the system will keep them out of poverty.

I'm relaying a few national stories that ended up being scams. What that has to do with there being no poverty, well, only your brain can make the connection, I suppose. One of the stories doesn't even have a thing to do with poverty.

You can still donate to her. jlprk, get on it.

Well this is progress. So you agree that there should be a giant anti-poverty government program, bankrupting the U.S.

Silence must mean acquiescence. Anyway, this waitress story was always a non-story. There is no law against writing cheeky messages on your receipts. The media keeps covering it.

Papa is right that the waitress belongs in a loony bin. (To decrease government, Reagan was the first to release large numbers from the asylums in the 60s. I lived in California and it pissed off liberals. Other states then imitated him.)
