Some thoughts I had after reading this:
1. It's hard to know if Oregon's effectiveness is the offense or the pace or the personnel. It might be all three. Would the offense run better with NFL-level athletes? Seemingly. Will a defense be able to slow the team down if it's properly conditioned? Perhaps. I guess we'll see some answers to this over time.
2. The article is right that (a) it doesn't take extended excellence (over, say, a decade) to "matter" in sports, and (b) many of the "revolutions" are just blips. Loyola Marymount was fun to watch but they didn't change how basketball was played long term. Of course, it's not Chip Kelly's job to revolutionize football... it's to win games, and he's done a good job on that front so far!
