As each quarter finishes, the video is uploaded.

It is in Chinese, and the feed can be slow and stall, but it's Yi vs. Krstic.

Actually I see Yi and Yao but dont see Krstic playing for Serbia. But the video is difficult.

Yi help China overcome a very young second string Serbia side 96-72. Yi played 20 minutes in total scoring 14 points and grabbing 5 rebounds. While he showed touches of brilliance, his overall game was quite disappointing. He was too hesistant one time in the post and lost his dribble. Tends to still drift in and out of games when he should really be demanding the ball especially without Yao on the court. China will need him to play a lot better if they are to do well at the Olympics. Box score for the game is given below:

So did Krstic ever play in this game? And if so, what # is he (not that I'd have a prayer of making it out)?

Nope...it was there U19 or U21 team, a youth team. The Iranian National Team was supposed to play in this tournament but dropped out so they could play in the Rocky Mountain Revue. As a result, Serbia wound up sending its youth team.

It's their U20 national team, so no Kristic. That team won FIBA U19 world Championship last year, Beating USA in the final.
That USA team included some big names, such as Michael Beasley.

English boxscore here.

Anyway, Yi (who traveled on that fastbreak dunk, by the way), was pretty deferential when Yao was there. He did his usual act of using his athleticism to score, and then just hanging around after that.

When you throw the ball in front on the break, it's not traveling. Players don't dribble with ball on their side on the open floor.

Yeah you could see the difference between Yi and Yao really easily this game. Yao dominated those kids while Yi was passive most of the time. He's gotta demand the ball more esp when yao isn't playing. And he has to start abusing some of these lesser players that are guarding him.

Maybe that's why they signed Eduardo. Give some of these guys some fire.

Yi has to improve this season without excuses. Statistically, he added no additional wins for the Bucks last year. Hopefully, he'll learn to be more active and contribute more from his minutes.

Playing for the CNT does nothing for Yi's development. They only rely on size as their advantage and stand around when they don't have the ball. Maybe the Nets can shape Yi into a real force.

I'm saying it sure looks like he took three steps to the basket. It's hard to tell on the fast speed, but it's obvious on normal speed.

Yao was definitely not dominating. He got fouled a lot due to some liberal reffing, but he was hardly dominating. However, I would say Yi needs to demand the ball more in the low post.

It's not liberal reffing. That's the way they call the game in international bball. They don't allow guys to be molested in the post as they do in the NBA. That's why it's a huge mistake for the US not to take a 3rd big man. Dwight Howard could find himself sitting on the bench a lot with foul trouble. Anyone remember Athens 2004 and Tim Duncan?

The disappointing for me in the game against the Serbia under 20 team was that he showed no authority or leadership on the court. These are good opportunities to work on his game, especially in the post. However he was too passive and didn't get himself involved in the game enough.

That's the problem the Chinese national team. With the exception of Yao, none of them look hungry out there. Obviously Yao is used to having success and he has a reputation to maintain. Even Sun Yue and Yi Jianlian, both extremely talented, they looked drained on the court.

Maybe I'm over sensitive, these are just practice games. Yet, I wonder if any of them can "turn it on" when they really need it.

If a player had any athleticism, even in college ball. It's one dribble from the top of the key on the break away dunk. You can use a microscope and count steps, but that's not a traveling call in modern basketball in any country.

the fact is YOU'RE RIGHT, the NBA and FIBA is wrong. The fault is the rules, it was never design for 7 feet tall freaks that can dunk as easy as we can walk.

there is an interesting statistic for Yi: before he win the titles of dec. best rookie, bucks win almost all the games that when he shot more than 15 times.

the head coach of CNT is a good coach from Lithuania:

he has taught yi a lot.

imo playing for National team is unconditional, proud to serve one's country.

Just that quite a few of us has been following the CNT for at least 5 years on the Yaomingmania forum. We follow Yao and Yi from the 2004 Olympics. Over the last 2 years, all their players post around the same stats game after game. There is no player development. The terrible guards still make the same mistakes and can't break the press. The players like Wang ZZ still can't play defense. Yao is a better post player from experience in the NBA, but he's lost his creativity he showed in his rookie year. I remember watching Yao do a dribble spin pull up near the key in Madison Square Garden.

As for the Yi and his time on the Bucks, I have nothing good to say. They have no sympathy for Yi and was good for both parties that they parted ways. Yi posted some good numbers for the few games that he made a difference..... too few. Crazy thing is I'm seeing history repeat in what they're doing to Joe Alexander.
