Watching Games Online

Hey Guys, I'm about to time the worst cable cancellation of all time. Before cutting the cord (out of principal) I'm wondering how anybody watches games online? MLB.tv seems like it may be the way to go but I am in NY, and the fine print seems to point out I'd only get out of market games. For what it's worth, I'm also trying to find out how to stream hockey and soccer games. Thanks in advance for any input.

...bern...save your money...I gave up on MLBTV a couple of years ago and refused to pay the extortion money for such poor service and way too many games being blacked out...there are a few sites where you can stream games for free...here's two of the ones I use...(not showing anything now because obviously there's no baseball right now)...but play around with it because you can watch over televised sports for free too.

Thanks. The MLB.tv package is steep when reality is I'd only want to watch the Yanks and maybe a handful of other games. The second link is pushing some crazy amount of installs. Is there light at the end of that tunnel?

I have Cablevision on LI and am doing my best to set up a big F-U call to their client redemption department.

...yeah, I steer clear of the "installs" you're talking about (probably their sponsors)...but I didn't have to download any of them to watch games the last two years...but I'll keep checking on this because it seems each year there are more and more sites offering "free streaming", some better than others.

...I feel your pain on the providers and telling them to "FO"... I'm looking to do the same thing...$170 per month for a land line I don't need, 300 channels of which I might watch 10%...and horrible internet service.

Direct TV is a huge scam as well. Responded to one of their .19.95 per month deals to find out it was bait and switch. If one included MLB in the service the price was around 58.00 per month. Back in '10 I came home from work, girl friend said I have a surprise for you. She led me into the living room and I freaked, a big screen TV with an HD Box and a St. Louis Cardinals game on. Really cool, since then the 42" screen is a midget, MLB has really gotten poor and CATV rates are skyrocketing. When I called to cancel the service I was asked why, just too much money for all those channels and I only watch a few.

My cable provider (cable/phone/internet) has us by the short hairs. No Fios and the only cable alternative is DirectTV, which I hear is poor and confirmed that same bait and switch mentioned above.

Their internet is great, so if I can find alternatives to what I like to watch (Yanks and Rangers), I can deal with internet plus Netflix from my xbox. The MLB.tv seemed like an option but that's $25+/month and might not even carry market games - in addition to the negative feedback I'm hearing. Then what, for NHL I have to get the same the of package? Before I know it between individual subscriptions and extra for internet I'm close to the $170 I pay now. It's crazy what utilities are charging these days.

^^^from what I remember when I had MLBTV they blacked out only maybe 10-12 games per year but it seemed they were always the ones I wanted to see most.

With all the metal in Ricks body, you can place him on top of a phone pole, and run a cable from Rick to your satellite dish.....(no offense Rick, If I'm not mistaken, you've had your metal removed haven't you)???

In my own case, I've got enough metal in this beaten old body to get FM radio, when I turn my head to the West, to the East the YES channel, and to the South, not a damned thing comes in, other than Mexican Pinata music....

^^^My problem is that we're out in the country...to give you an idea of how far out we are, we're 8 miles from the nearest gas station...and 8 miles from the nearest convenience store, which in our case, actually makes it an "inconvenience store".
...kinda limited on broadband options.
