@Lakers: BREAKING: The #Lakers and @kobebryant agree to terms on a contract extension. #GoLakers http://t.co/1JiXnrTJ3h

No word on terms yet but I hope it's over 20 mil a year. Handcuffs the Lakers for a long time.

Why in the hell are they extending a guy his age coming off a major injury? LOL and like you I hope it's for a shitload of $$$$

I thought he still had another 2-3 years on contract? I figured he'd retire after that, oh well, good for Lakers to waste as much cash as possible. You know they'll get Wiggins in draft...

Yep Lakers continue to make Kobe the highest paid player in the league the next two years.

@Chris_Broussard: Source: Kobe deal worth $48 million over 2 years. Still will be highest paid player in league next 2 yrs

:clap::clap::lol::lol: :dunno::dunno: :biglaugh::biglaugh:

Wow, that makes zero sense unless they are pretty damn confident they can get Durant in 2016

Damn, 24 million per?

Him and Steve Nash take up over HALF of their cap space.

They'll be at approx 37 million, with 21 million left over. And that's 21 million to spend on approx 11 roster spots.

Even then it makes no sense. They'll basically be a 1 player team, made up so-so players that they had to sign to surround Kobe and Nash with.

They should still have enough available for 1 max player according to my poor math skills

The only "max" player that would worth signing is LeBron, and he'd be an idiot for leaving for LA.

For all the people saying "why not just wait until the end of the season?"---K*be's ALWAYS going to sign an extension. He has too much stuff (full no-trade, 80% upfront, etc) in grandfathered clauses that wouldn't be able to be in a new contract.

There should be a certain level of loyalty the lakers should have with Kobe. He's been a lifelong Laker and brought them 5 titles. If any of our players did that, I wouldn't mind keeping them until he retires.

I'd be curious to see what kind of revenue his jersey sales continue to bring in for the Lakers?

Oops, can't believe I forgot about that tool.

it's funny that even though he plays in the media capital of the world, he's pretty much an unknown this year. Doesn't help that the knicks are struggling.

The Lakers can stretch Nash's contract so it only counts for $3 million but then it'll be on the cap at that amount until 2017.

This. Franchises like the Lakers and Yankees happily overspend to keep their reputation intact for being the best destination for marquee talent.

There's no "loyalty" in this business and there shouldn't be given the goal of trying to compete for titles. This kind of sentimentality is destructive of that goal.

The Lakers would be a destination city without this gross mismanagement; the marketing opportunities are better, the weather is great and the opportunity to cross over into the entertainment industry is easier for those players so inclined.

Their track record suggests they know what they're doing. It's all about building a "larger than life" image to appeal to the massive egos.

great, now I want them to pay a max contract to Melo!

nah, have them trade Gasol to NYK for Melo, then max-entend him. Gasol's still got something in the tank, and I'd rather him use that gas somewhere other than LAL.
