We started talking about him in the L*ker thread, but I thought he deserved his own welcome thread.

I know it's just one game and he shot better than he usually does, but I think as a personality Portland is going to really embrace this guy. First, he's named after Henri Matisse. Second, he's from the Pacific Northwest and seems to get us. Third, you listen to him speak, and he gives off that free spirit vibe, like Robin Lopez and Channing Frye.

I hope he continues his solid play--at least on the defensive end of the floor--and we keep him after this year.
 
He just needs to hit that corner three at like 35% or so and continue to make smart passes. Or even make cuts like Harkless did to get to the dunker spot.

Thats all he needs to do to be productive.

Really excited to see what he does for our defense next to Jerami and Nurk.

Well we would at least be able to match any offer he gets. Hoping somehwere in the range of 10-12 mil per. Would be a discount on what Hart will prolly get.

I’m hoping for less than GPII’s contract. Not exactly sure why we signed GPII for that contract when Thybulle was on the trade block for a 2nd rounder or something like that before the draft.

Did the front office actually think GPII could actually play PG?

I have always loved players you don’t have to call plays for and they help us. Hart was that kinda guy, so is Matisse. If people on here think he’ll continue to shoot the way he did last night, it ain’t happening. But thats cool, cause I only expect him to help on the other end and maybe finish a few fast breaks and I’ll be happy.

He has a very interesting connection to the team…. His mom is best friends or very close friends with one of our flight attendants that worked for Mr.Allen for years! She was our head flight attendant on Blazer1. So she’s know this kid his whole life and swears he’s the best. Down to earth, quality family. Small world.

I have a conspiracy theory about this whole GP thing, but am unsure about sharing since I'm not usually someone who shares conspiracies. Also, it's just a random idea.

Robin Lopez was the first guy I thought of when I heard him in the post game interview.

Love the guy.

Same! I'm excited to have his defense and anything offensive to keep them guessing in the game is a cherry on top.

Plus the dude seems like a quality human being.

My wacky theory: Cronin would have been OK keeping GP, but, he could have signed him mainly because he knew how much Golden State wanted him. So, basically signing the guy with the intention of trading him back for resources, or legal and by the book extortion. And Golden State might have not been too happy about it.
 
I fully expect him to shoot like that EVERY game. Now let me take a big sip of this coffee and watch the next game...

Not a bad theory, and also makes sense. Also not considered a conspiracy lol.

“Legal and by the book” makes it not a conspiracy. Smart business imo. Nets burned us with the offer to Crabbe and we’ve burned OKC with the offer to Kanter.

They’ll get us back one of these days, I’m sure.

Thybulle was born in Scottsdale, Arizona, the son of Greg, a Haitian-born engineer raised in the Harlem neighborhood of New York,[3][4] and Dr. Elizabeth Thybulle, a naturopath who died of leukemia in 2015.[5] He was named after French artist Henri Matisse.[6] When he was two, his family moved to Sydney, Australia, where they lived for around seven years.[7] The Thybulle family lived in Sydney's North Shore while in Australia and the children attended elementary school at North Sydney Demonstration School.[8] Matisse did not play much basketball in Australia and focused more on swimming while there, where he said lifeguards "were a really big deal".[9] His family returned to the U.S. in 2005 and settled in Sammamish, Washington, a suburb east of Seattle.[7]

Thybulle could not make layups consistently until around the eighth grade, when his coordination began matching his speed.[9] He attended Skyline High School for two years, then transferred to nearby Eastside Catholic,[9][10] where he was ranked a four-star recruit by Scout.com and three-star by ESPN,[11][12] and graduated in 2015.

Thybulle played college basketball for the Washington Huskies. As a senior in 2019, he was recognized as the top defender in the nation with the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year and the Lefty Driesell Award.

He was selected in the first round of the 2019 NBA draft with the 20th overall pick (along with Nassir Little 25th pick, and Cam Reddish 10th pick). He was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 2021 and 2022.
 
Matisse Thybulle and Tobias Harris visit Strand bookstore in New York and discuss Ta-nehisi Coates. Then (surprise! Was it a setup?) meet Ta-nehisi Coates there.
We learn from Harris that the team has given Thybulle the nickname " 6 biscuits." Harris says we have to Google it.

Having Thybulle on the team looks like a nice single. A good hit. If he becomes a stand-up double, awesome.
His O needs a lot of work!
