Is this supposed to replace the Sellwood bridge?
Remember the Sellwood Bridge is seriously need of repair. Its too old (1925 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sellwood_Bridge) and insufficient for the current traffic patterns in Portland. Remember theres cracks in it now and only cars can go over it.

Nope, the one that maxiep linked is totally different. They need a new bridge to accommodate the expansion of MAX into Milwaukie, so that one will be exclusively for light rail, pedestrians and bicycle traffic (no vehicles). The Sellwood is totally a different project and is going to be replaced and will still carry vehicle traffic.

The Sellwood is a tough bridge. Given the amount of traffic, it really does need to be four lanes. However, the residential construction came so close to the bridge, it can really only be two or three.

If they repair the sellwood and create the new bridge for MAX they really need to beef up the officers to make sure people don't ride the max for free. Having two bridges built and one repaired is going to be a heavy cost burden to the cities and counties. Didn't we already cut some bus routes for tri-met? Max will have to be the transportation service that helps pay for these bridges. I hope the new proposed parking meter issues don't have to reflect on these new bridge projects.
