...trying to figure out what the Yanx were supposed to do that they didn't do...or what they did do that they shouldn't have.
 
For the money D-Rob ended up getting I think the Yankees could have resigned him.

It could be the Yanks are just playing the "if" game -

if Tex can bounce back two years removed from wrist surgery and put up less than embarrassing numbers...
if CC is healthy and shows his professionalism by making the adjustment with his 90MPH fastball, slurve, and change up...
If Beltran is ready to have at least one more "good" season...
If one of Refsnyder or Pirela can become solid contributors...
If Gregorius becomes an immediate asset with his defensive range and grows into the job of being the Yankee ss....
If they can pull off one more move for a starting pitcher.

...yeah, but there's solace in the fact that since they did not sign him and coupled with the fact that they traded Greene tells me that they are definitely signing another starter.

That and Boras will milk the media hype around Scherzer until mid- January. We know a starter(s) are coming with the loss of Greene and McCarthy.

And there may be another angle....we could be seeing player avoidance of the Yanx due to the pending sideshows coming this ST. Its pure speculation, but I believe this hot stove season goes differently if the ARoid situation wasn't hanging over the franchise.
