What do you think about women in the infantry?

The cons are the most stark to me. Are they physically and emotionally able to handle real combat situations? Are they willing to be subjected to rape if captured and are we willing to lead them into those potential situations? What about their leadership abilities in a combat unit with respect to snap decisions and under heavy fire…?

I don't like the idea, I think that combat positions are no place for social engineering. I'm sure there are plenty of women who are competent, courageous, and committed enough to succeed (even thrive) in combat position, but I have my doubts about how their being there will affect the combat readiness of those around them. In my mind, when it comes to military readiness, when in doubt, don't do it.

Joan of Ark was an amazing solder. I don't see anything wrong with woman being in the field and defending our country. In fact, woman have been in the battlefield many times throughout history. In espionage they are some of the best spies.

Also, woman can withstand more drama physically then men and that's been scientifically proven. They may not be stronger physically; but mentally I think woman can take way more punishment. And did you see that Olympian that broke records with shooting? She was beast mode missing only one target throughout all events.

Men = Women. They should not be able to get out of ground combat based on their gender. In other words, it should not be optional.

The third link I posted is a very well written pirce by a female marine officer about the issue. I think you'll find it enlightening.

As long as there is no pregnancy and harassment, I don't care.

No, men and women are not created equal. I support women in some areas of the military (to incluse combat support which may place them in a combat) but not as 'foot' soldiers.

what about pussy whipped mamas boys? should they get a pass too?

add sexist to the list

the best soldiers should be chosen by skill, pretty easy to see how that could give us the strongest military possible

Does this mean that all women will have to sign up with Selective Service at age 18, too? If so, and if we need a draft, I assume that women will be treated as equals to men, too.

Unless women have to register for the draft, this is a worthless gesture that means nothing.

wouldn't it make more sense to send average soldiers on the front line then followed by the best soldiers?

take. the. best. soldiers.

rocket science apparently

yeah, but you don't want them getting killed first. by your theory, special forces should be first to hit the ground in battle.

no, its probably going to be an option. a women will now be able to "decide" if she wants to be in a combat role or not, whereas the male really won't have an option.

Progress!

I do not beleive, genetically, women possess any less ability to lead or make snap decisions under pressure. In fact this world may be a more peaceful world if we had more women leaders.

The rape question is interesting but applies to men as well . . . are men willing to be subject to rape if captured? Yuck, I imagine all the terrible things that might happen if captured . . . add one more to the list.

I always laugh every time I see someone say something like this. Women can be some of the most vengeful and vindictive people on the face of the earth. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned... ever heard that one?

Robin Williams, on what it would be like if we had a woman President: "There'd never be any more wars, but every twenty-eight days there'd be some really intense negotiations...

Women can kill civilians just as efficiently as men can. I see no gender issue. They eat less and weigh less which are assets in troop deployment.

I'll trade you a cliché for science:

Testosterone . . . ever heard of that?
