Unless this was done since he was married, who gives a flying fuck. And even then, who gives a Flying Nun.

Letterman is due for some being made fun of? :devilwink:

Here are the top ten reasons women on his staff slept with him.

10. He is rich.

9-2 who cares

1. He looks like Brad Pitt compared to Paul Shaffer

"David Letterman told the audience of his late night talk show that he had sexual relationships with female members of his staff, and added he forked over a bogus $2 million check as part of an extortion plot on the matter."

Apparently he had to give grand jury testimony regarding his behavior. It's unclear at this point when the multiples sexual liasons took place.

What's great about this is how much fun Letterman has made of people like Mark Sanford, a fellow scuzball, or so it appears.

Well I could see how this was a proper analogy, if the affairs happened when David wasn't married...

Well, he did live with his wife for 20 years prior to marriage, and his son isn't exactly an infant. :devilwink:

Good for Dave. Living the moral high ground on air, but getting 'tang on the side with his employees. How elite of him.

Although I admit I didn't read the article thoroughly, we don't know how long ago the affairs took place.

He has been doing that show (in both forms) for what, 30 years now?

Has he been promoting family values? Has David been talking about his religious values, as a point of importance for his character?

I would bet a lot of people find more issues with the hypocrisy of Republicans who railed against Clinton for being sleazy, when they themselves cheated on their spouses. Or those who railed against homosexuality, and themselves took part in homosexual activities (even if they claim to be 'cured' now).

Was Dave claiming to be a man of virtue?

Like I said, I think most people who had issues with the R's who recently got caught cheating on wives, or fucking dudes in bathrooms or snortin crack off the schlong of some dude (or whatever it is Ted Haggard did), did so because they were hypocrites.

If the Rush Limbaughs, Sanfords, Haggard etc, would not have played the holier than thou card, not nearly as many people would care.

He made jokes about people caught in compromising positions regarding sex.

Are you one of his sons? Why waste the time defending some lame jokes about him? :devilwink:

So...Dave acted like he didn't do something and condemned others for doing it?

All he did was make fun of Sanford (actually, I don't know if he did. I assume he did).

But you seem to be purposely forgetting the little fact that Sanford (and others mentioned in this thread) acted like their shit didn't stink, and that others who did these heinous acts were evil and pathetic.

It's just slightly different if I was a single guy (or dating) and didn't mention anything about my religious beliefs or rile against those who cheated on their spouses (other than to make fun of them)...and if I was a married guy, who espoused my religious beliefs, and used it in my political dealings and I cheated on my wife (or fucked some guy, or used drugs, or acted like I would never cheat on my wife when I in fact did several times).

They're both not commendable, but to act as though they're the same, or that "ha! Dave is getting what he deserves" is just lazy thinking.

I'd expect this kind of shit from Glenn Beck or Bill O.

exactly true. closeted republicans are hilarious.

Apparently WorldWide Pants (who is who Dave works for, not CBS) passed out an email to the media saying that what Dave did, didn't actually violate any policy they have. Nor did they receive any complaints about what he did.

This is kinda what I had in mind when I posted this thread...

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091003/ap_en_tv/us_tv_letterman_extortion

NEW YORK – Late-night hosts didn't waste a moment poking fun at the troubles of one of their own, after a CBS newsman was charged with trying to blackmail David Letterman for $2 million in a plot that forced the late-night comic to acknowledge having sex with some of the women who have worked for him.

The bizarre case has created a messy legal and professional problem for one of CBS' most valuable personalities. Commentators and bloggers quickly accused Letterman of hypocrisy because he has made a career of mocking politicians mercilessly, often for their sexual transgressions.

Robert J. "Joe" Halderman, a producer for the true-crime show "48 Hours Mystery," pleaded not guilty in a Manhattan court to one count of attempted first-degree grand larceny, punishable by five to 15 years in prison. Prosecutors said Halderman, who was released after posting $200,000 bail, was desperate and deep in debt.

Jay Leno, Letterman's longtime late-night rival, kicked off his monologue Friday on NBC: "If you came here tonight for sex with a talk show host, you've got the wrong studio."

On NBC's "Late Night," Jimmy Fallon also worked it into his monologue: "There's a new book out called "Why Women Have Sex" that says there are 237 reasons why women have sex. And folks, Letterman knows the top 10."...
