I think something that goes unmentioned, a lot, is a team’s identity. So I was thinking about ours, and came up with nothing.

I think I know what they want it to be, which is moving the ball for a better shot and playing defense, but once again we are in the lower 3rd in assists and defense.

Going back in time with all of our solid teams, they had an identity. The Walton teams played through him on both offense and defense with a lot of ball movement and funneling teams to Bill on defense. The Clyde teams put pressure on teams by attacking early and ball movement on offense while funneling players to the sidelines on defense breaking their offenses down. The Sheed teams played through the bigs and had great wing and big defenders.

These teams recently have had the identity of shitty defense and an offense that relies on ISO and 1 or 2 guys breaking people down off the dribble. But in reality, there really is no identity to this roster.

So what do you guys think our identity is, should be and want it to be. Add to that what you think the roster and coaching staff needs to be to achieve that

We are known for one of the best offenses and the worst defense in the entire league. This has been our identity for years.

We're that group of random dudes that sign up at the gym to play on the rec team.

They're the X men younger class, or whatever it was at the end of that one marvel movie.

A bunch of potential super heroes who aren't in complete control of their powers, headed by Wolverine, Batman and Luke Skywalker when he was training with Yoda.

Oh, and throw in a little Doctor Who when he (or she) first regenerates.

The Blazers are a team in transition from the mess Olshey left behind to whatever Cronin has in store after this summer. It ain’t pretty right now, but I’ll hold off judgment until the end of summer.

Blazers have not established any identity at all, unless going into total stalls during significant chunks of games is an identity

this is another of about a half dozen threads here that at their core point fingers at the coaching staff

personally, I think just about all vestiges of the Olshey era need to be gone and Chauncey was an Olshey idea

It certainly wasn’t my intention to point anything at the coaching staff. I do think Billups is partially responsible though

Our identity is using Bird Rights to keep Jerami Grant. He's officially trapped in Portland now.
- sign the players Damian enjoys being around.
- Hire 2 former NBA point guards to coach a Lillard/Grant/Simons friendly offense.
- don't practice weakside defense. Therefore defensive effort won't be questioned.
Run the O, Run the O.

It's Dame.

With an ownership that is not dedicated to winning.

Our identity is "Tryouts for roster spots next season" and that extends to coaching as well. We have enough keepers now for half a starting lineup and half a bench.

Not only are they not dedicated to it.... they seem to be avoiding it. They couldn't care less about winning.
it's been over a month since the Blazers scintillating 3 game win streak against Hawks, Grizzlies & Wizards. The Blazers are starting to get hammered in their defeats. The losing contests are not even close anymore.

Thats a damn good question.

I have not watched a full game for the past few years. I have tried, but instead of bitching about the style of play, its easier to switch the channel.

The dribble, dribble, dribble shoot, poor rotation, no defense thing is tiresome.

I was talking to a guy the other day about the past teams that you have mentioned. Made me miss the Jail Blazers era.

I go by he/him/they/who?/and dude.
