Could be in Oregon, or the region (or if you live out of the region, your state).

Me?

I like Detroit Lake and Devils lake.

Used to camp at Detroit, and I like visiting Devils.

Whats yours? (I figure this is better than the recent influx of lame ass threads..well, this is less lame ass)

When I was a kid, my dad would take me and my brothers to camp at Lake Billy Chinook, so I have very fond memories of that one.

Foster Lake in Sweet Home is a nice close one to take a day trip.

Lake Powell in southern Utah is nice too, but that might have just been cause it was 110 degrees when I was there, so the water felt amazing.

Blue Lake because we used to have a lot of picnics, etc growing up.

I have fond memories of crater lake

But my favorite was always Crane Prairie growing up.

Lake Blilly Chinook is where its at. We go every summer and I wakeboard so much my arms feel like they are going to fall off.

Shasta week days, Trinity week ends. Two or three decades ago Clear Lake was beautiful..

Wallowa. But, there's too many great lakes that I've stayed at to list. Lost, Lava, East & Paulina, Timothy, Frog......

Which, Devils Lake there's a couple in Oregon?

Backpacking is one of my very favorite things. For 6 summers I worked on a Biological research project for the California Dept. of Fish and Game in the High Sierras centered on the fish and amphibians of high mountain lakes. I've literally been to thousands of lakes in John Muir's magical range of light. My very favorite is Upper Buck Lake in Emigrant Wilderness which is adjacent to Yosemite on the North side.

I make the 13 mile hike most every summer. One time I took my neighbor along who had never even been car camping before. Along the way we passed several really pretty lakes that he lobbied to camp by. When we finally made it there, he thanked me profusely for not giving in to his earlier requests but then stated how hungry he was. "Whats for dinner?" he asked. I responded that I hadn't caught it yet. An hour later I had 4 fat trout to compliment the various sushi ingredients I'd packed.

Raw trout? Is it good?

Seems like there would be some parasite and mercury concerns with eating raw trout from freshwater.

attached are some other pretty lake shots that I've taken over the years

while I have eaten raw trout just to try it out before (it's okay) I steam cooked those 4

backcountry sushi is a great treat IMO. You can use smoked salmon or those foil tuna packets as your fish too. I've some small containers that I put the soy sauce, rice vinegar & wasabi powder in & of course Nori packs flat. Besides fresh fish, the only thing that requires cooking is the sushi rice. Usually I make it the first night's meal and pack in some vegi's like avocado, onion & bean sprouts

There's a lot of good ones in Oregon, but I'd have to say Cougar Reservoir. The fishing is typically poor, which is good for people like me who hate fishing and want to water ski/wakeboard all day :ghoti: It's a favorite of my family as you pretty much always have the whole lake to yourself and there's lots of places to explore on it. I also love the fact that there's no buildings at all within 30 minutes, no cell phone reception, no hookups for RVs...Cougar is REAL camping!

Sounds pretty good. You should show your neighbor a little crawfish boil.

Lake Merwin is a blast!

Sent from my baller ass iPad FAMS!

Blue lake trivia....

Used to be a privately owned park with a huge dance hall that burned down.

Salmon used to spawn in blue lake and fairview lake as they were originally part of the sandy river delta... Along with the Columbia slough. That was before we started fucking around with the wetlands.

Our family had a lot of picnics there too, and I remember the paddle boats, and the swim area with the concrete docks and big diving platform.

I like Detroit Lake and Devils lake.

I've lived not far from Devil's Lake in Lincoln City for almost 50 years. Cool
lake, but most of the accessible shoreline is private property, a little too urban for
my tastes.
