As outlined in numerous articles in the last 24 hours, and realizing that the story originated from a less than accurate beat writer, but with that said, I think they are going to blow the doors off the vault. Call me crazy, and you will, but I feel that they are going to be very aggressive. Marchand's article for those who haven't had a chance to catch it/

...I saw that article earlier, but once I saw Andrew Marchand, I stopped reading...but yeah, I expect and hope the Yanx will be aggressive in reloading.
 
To me Marchand is usually more full of s@@t than a septic tank. Beltran has had a nice run but the Yankees should not go for players on the wrong side of thirty. Immediate needs would be resign Cano at a reasonable rate, hope Arod gets whacked with a suspension then go from there.
 
...I dunno, Beltran offered to come to the Yanx once before for less money than he ended up signing for...I think he might be a good stop gap for one year...and he rakes in the post season.

Bayless has a rating? The way you said that reminded me of the famous interview Tommy LaSorda did about Kurt Bevacqua, playing for the Padres commenting on hitting Joe LeFebve one night. If you haven't heard it? It's a must..

Tonight we saw the Red Sox complete a last to pennant winning run against a team that has whipped the Yankees three times in playoff rounds since 2006. We will also note that the Bostons are going to the World Series for the 3rd time since 2004. Something tells me that the Yankee Brass needs to pull their heads out of their a@@es and get this team back on the right side of this rivalry. The Yankees spent a lot of money, competed, were successful in '09, competed until late this year. I sure hope they will make some good moves between now and the start of spring.

in order for him to rake in the post season, you need to actually make the post season first... I know they are going to open the vault for Cano although he shouldn't be offered more than 6 years or more than $25M/year... Yankees will because they never learn... they still will have a major problem in the pitching department, and there aren't many options out there... plus I know they are going hard after McCann, but they don't always get who they want... just saying signing Beltran because he rakes in the post season doesn't make the most sense when you need to worry about getting back there first.
 
...I think you misread what I posted. I didn't imply or say that his PS numbers was the only reason to sign him. I said " I think he might be a good stop gap for one year...and he rakes in the post season"....and in order to "make the post season first" you need to have the talent to get there.

...Beltran also has VERY respectable regular season career numbers; .283 .359 .496 .854



...He's a very solid all around player and a much better option than Granderson.

Definitely a better option than Granderson, but if we were to get him for 1 year as a stop gap... stop gap for who? who are you planning on bringing in after next year? no one in the farm...
 
We will have to take a wait and see here. Its nice to hear they want to spend. The truth is they have very little choice. But if it ends up resulting in a 10 yeard deal for cano, too many years for beltran, overpayment for McCann etc etc, thats just piling on to a problem that already exists.

The yankees priority should have been fixing their internal issues. Not firing cashman is an awful way to start that process. Word is at least some folks will be on the outs from the player development team, but you have to cut off the snakes head, and they didn't do that.

...a "stop gap" replacement gives them another year to figure out how they want to address that roster spot. It also allows Mustelier, Almonte, and others to get another year of experience.

I know what a stop gap is, but normally when one mentions a stop gap measure being put in place... something down the road is in mind... hence my question
 
...and my answer is I don't know who might fill one of the OF spots, and no one else does either. 2015 is a long way off and a lot of things can happen.
 
Missing the playoffs and seeing a number of better teams in the league has to be weighing on them, the Yankees need to get back to prominence, and they have the money to do it, so there is hope, I just don't see the players to fix it by 2014, not with the pitching problems, but again, money brings hope.
 
Whatever we do, we as an organization need to move this roster toward one built for the post season. What I mean is this. The current format leading to the World Series is mostly do or die. You look at the teams this year that progressed and they all had the starting pitching that lead to their success. St Louis has shut down opposing lineups. the A's, Detroit, even the Dodgers take away Kershaws last start. When we were running the table on WS under Torre, we had at least 3 starters that kept us in every game, couple that with Mo and timely hitting, and the parades followed. Pitching is the key. Tanaka is a must. Who knows what he will translate to, but we are forced to throw money. If and I know it's a big if, CC can adjust, like Mussina and if we can get anything big out of Nova, Pineda, Phelps or the likes, we can begin to compete, but we need to be built for the post season.
