Just curious if with the emergence of Batum and the improved play of Outlaw.. have the minds of people switched to looking for a PG now instead of shoring up the 3? and is Outlaw playing himself into this teams future and pushing Martell out? Thoughts?

I'm not sure on Webster and Outlaw but I think now we need a veteran PG more then a SF. I'm not sure who we could get but I think we will have to wait until closer to the trade deadline and see who might be available for a LaFrenz plus a few players.

So youre thinking like a High paid PG then if we throw in Raef's contract?

That's what I would like to see. A high priced veteran PG that can help us this year in the playoffs and teach Bayless and maybe Sergio if we keep him. I'm not sure one will be available but you never know by the trade deadline.

Duncan would be a terrible short term fix..he just doesn't have much left in the tank
Kidd is just awful at this point in his career
Nash would be fun, but do we really want to pay a premium on a 2..3 (max) year rental? I know right now I wouldn't package Rudy or Outlaw in a deal for Nash
 
I think Duncan would be great, in that he plays the Nate Way, plays the KP way, and wouldn't have to be the #1 option playing 42 minutes a night like he does now. He's steady, experienced, and a winner. His game is predicated on being an "old man game" anyway, so I think he'll be able to age gracefully by playing tough D and hitting open hook shots and bank shots when other teams double Greg.

Kidd would be a one-year rental, but I think what he brings is what we need. A winner, a PG that can direct this team, and just enough of a defender still to stay on the court. But I don't think he wants to come here. And it's not like he'd play 40 mpg.

Unless PHX keeps playing the money game, I wouldn't give what they'd want for Nash. But if a 12M trade exception call Raef LaFrentz looks good to them, then Raef+Bayless+Frye/Diogu/(Maybe Outlaw) for Nash and Grant Hill would be fine for me.
 
That would go against KP's plan of building for multiple titles.

The player that would fit KP's longterm plan from the Spurs is Tony Parker, not Tim Duncan.
 
as long as we aren't planning to win it all this year we should stand pat, give our young guns plenty of PT, and if needed wait for what will be better trade opportunities down the road.
 
I wholeheartedly agree. But I don't think there's any way we get TP without mortgaging our team's future.

I do think SAS would think long and hard about Duncan/rights to Splitter for LMA/Raef. They have a small drop-off, but get 9 years younger at the PF and have someone to run with Parker and Ginobili. Duncan fits us a lot better than LMA does, with his defense and half-court prowess. And I love LMA. But I'd love him more if he turned into Duncan.

Thats what they said last year in Dallas. OOOPs! He didn't win his last two years in NJ and was not impressive with Dallas since everyone knows he can't hit the broad side of a barn. (They do use that termenology in big D)

Once again i see no reason to bring in Walter Davis for Drazen Petrovic. If we can pull off a blockbuster then fine, but Blake is our veteran PG. So in two months he needs to teach Bayless what to do and then back him up. Unless it is just for Raef's contract then Ok but I do not see any options that are better than we have.
 
We need to make a trade to clear up roster space. I just do not know what for. Untouchables for me are (in order)...

Rudy
Oden
LMA
Batum
Bayless (yes I think he is going to be a star in this league)

***MAYBE*** Outlaw

the rest I don't really care about. I like them all, but wouldn't cry if they got traded.

either an aggressive 3/4 (and admit Brandon is our PG), a vet PG who could lead our team temporarily (and aid in the development of our bigs), or a young PG to fit with our guys long term. Either way we should keep our eye out for someone to fit this mold on the cheap.

my wishlist

aggressive 3/4 (bench star who can play tough D in Sergio's unit):
Gerald Wallace

vet PG: (a better version of Blake, who cares if they're rentals?)
Steve Nash (never said we couldn't dream, one Shaq injury and a cheap owner's impulse away)
Andre Miller

young PG: (would give up Bayless/Outlaw to get)
Devin Harris
Mike Conley
