Couple of outlets reporting Cards, SD and Yanks showed "interest" as late as tonight as his price may have come back to where the Yankees could jump in.
He's expected to sign by the end of the week.

?

Last I heard he's looking for 5 years & $100M & no one is biting.

I'd beware of Shields at this age, and too long a contract. How about 3 years, 12, 11, then 10 Million? I'd even be leary of offering him that much money.

Shields did NOT impress me at all in the Post Season. He looked more like a middle reliever, and was NOT effective at all. 25.0 IP, 31 Hits, 17 Runs in PS is NOT impressive. I got the feeling Shields best years are behind him....

3 @ $36M would be more than fair at this stage of his career.

...3 years/$50 Mil , with an option for a 4th year based on performance/health after 3rd year. (no buyout)

Per comments made on MLB "Hot Stove" yesterday another factor hurting Shields is looking ahead at next years pitching F/A selections. which appear pretty good. Teams are hesitant to cough up the big bucks for Shields if they feel they cab remain competitive. It's ironic that his resume has seemed to work against him.

He made $13.5M this past season so yeah Ron perhaps 3 yrs @ $45-$50M with a TEAM option for a 4th. And DEFINITELY no buyout.

4 yrs 55 mil ?

...^^^ I think if any team offers him a guaranteed 4 years, that's where he'll go.

...right after Lester signed, there were rumors that interest in Shields spiked and that he was offered 5 years/$110 Mil...I don't believe that rumor was true, but if it was, he should have taken it.

Good point Michael.....one I had almost forgotten about...!

So, Shields once signed, will live in the Clubhouse, living where he plays?

I don't think he plays in the club house but then again, I don't know the man. Seriously though I think Ron may be right about San Diego. I've got a gut feeling. Or perhaps its gas. We'll know soon enough.

If he takes approx the same from SD as other teams are offering....and he lives (?) in the SD area.....then we don't exactly need to consult Einstein, do we?

No you won't have to consult with me.

Einstein? You mean the over rated hack that's fundamentally wrong about almost everything and falsely attributed for numerous genius level events....that Einstein?

Or did you mean Herb Einstein the inventor of the bagel sandwich?
