(in 1977, Twardzik went down at the end of the season, but a newcomer, Johnny Davis stepped in - without a Johnny Davis, we would have been toast). A guy like Cunningham might prove to be our playoff up and commer? Nate has to get a few of these guys "ready" over these last six games....not "sit them"


- Has Roy gotten out of his funk? I think this has more to do with Roy than with Nate - and I think Roy WILL get out of his funk our last game of the season vs. Golden State.

(in other words, when Roy "wants" to get out of his funk - at that time he will!)


- How is LMA playing? Has Nate given LMA anything new to work with during the playoffs? If it were me, I'd be trying (in practices and over the final six games) feeding LMA and having him work hard on his spin to the baseline move. This is LMA's weekest move. Also, once the ball is into LMA, send more cutters down the lane and teach LMA to be able to pass from the post position. So far, he's not a passer - but I think he could become a fine passer - - - use the next six games to throw out a few plays, etc.

I'm totally exaggerating, and I know you didn't say anything close to that.

In fact, Batum's play has certainly been inconsistent this year, but he is so much further along than I even expected him to, so I can't knock him for having some bad games (and I know you weren't either).

However, the trend on this board is to freak out when we lose a game or two, and totally overvalue players after we beat a good team. I was just trying to have some fun with it.

Yeah... He's the reason we have such a good record against sub .500 teams. If the Nuggets had a player like that, they would be ahead of the Lakers.

I wouldn't put you with the "rah-rah, go team!" crowd since I think you're actually neutral on most things. So I wasn't really directing it at you. But it's ridiculous to not read a post simply because your radar sensed there's negativity and ignore a real point. I didn't trashed Nic. In fact, I'm usually quick to point out how high I'm on him. But I saw a weakness of his game and wanted to point it out and see if anyone else sees it too. Not everyone is MIXUM simply because they aren't always all positive.

This is very true. I have recently blocked Mixum, but it's not because he says negative things, it's because he is always negative and tries to exploit every situation for his own personal humor. I have no problem discussing the negatives of our team. In fact, I think more true discussion of the positives and negatives would be great for S2 instead of always rah-rah or sky-is-falling.

As far as Batum goes, even though he has had a few small bumps in the road, I feel great about him overall and think he is more consistent than most of the Blazers. And I personally just love a good defender. I am more concerned with Roy at the moment. He seems unable to take over games like he used to. I know it's just a slump, but he really has not looked like an all-star lately. He is thinking too much is my guess.

I think the point is...how is laying it up rather than dunking a weakness even worth pointing out? Or having a shot blocked occasionally? You know who gets their shot blocked once in a while? Everybody. You know who goes up soft once in a while? Everybody. Batum gets 7% of his 'inside' shots blocked. Brandon Roy: 11%. Lebron James: 7%. Kobe Bryant: 9%. Evidently this is not a big deal. But this year, it's worth bitching about.

Not to speak for "THE", but I'm guessing that's probably what's gotten him annoyed in this thread. Things that people would have just ignored in years past have become 'complaint worthy' this year and I agree...the shit is fucking ridiculous. And not just a passing comment in the game thread. But an entire thread dedicated to a complaint that's wrong and worse yet, easily proven wrong. I guess maybe it's because expectations were high for this season, but it's been hard to watch the slow burning implosion of some of our fans with ridiculous complaints about bullshit.

We need to make the pie higher in terms of what is actually worth complaining about.

I think it's too late in the season to work on large changes to players games. It's time to utilize strategies and game plans that we've been using all season long. Right now if your plays and offensive sets aren't second nature there just isn't time to implement and master modifications.

No, I think it's quite clear I wasn't very complimentary towards Nic. Do I need to? I wasn't intending this thread to be complimentary. I've posted plenty of praise towards Nic in other threads. Just because I wasn't throwing around praises doesn't mean I was crapping on him or complaining about his game as a whole, either. I was just trying to point out a part of his game that I thought was a weakness. It's a part of his game I think he could work on to improve. Nothing more, nothing less. And the "rah-rah, go team!" is all over me for it. So again, which part of my post was I "crapping" on him? Me observing that he hasn't been finishing very well near the rim? Ridiculous.

Everyone gets their shots blocked on occasion, did you see these stats a fellow poster made about various players percentage of getting blocked? did you see how low Nic's numbers were? That's why I think it's a dumb thread and initial post.

It seemed to me that on a lot of those misses, Nic was pushing the envelope...trying to make a contested shot where a more experienced player would have backed it out and reset things. I chalk it up to a learning process, just like Bayless is going through. Playing against NBA-level defenses is a lot tougher than college or Europe.

As one of the charter members of the Nic Batum Fan Club, I don't understand what everyone is so up in arms about. Nic Batum IS allowed to be questioned. He's not yet our one true god.

Personally, I don't think the concern raised by this thread is that big a deal. Nic has plenty of aggression and killer instinct, as has been shown by his desire to dunk all over Gasol, his various trash talk moments that have been reported and some impressive in-game dunks. He's still a young guy who's trying to integrate himself into a system that's not built around him, so he's going to sometimes be over-aggressive and sometimes be over-cautious.

But I'm not annoyed by this thread.

I think he already is. But give it a year or two, Nic will be mortal again. At one point Telfair, Webster, and even The Crapper (Victor Khryappa, fuck forgot how to spell his name) were demigods among Blazer faithfuls. Look what happened to them.

Okay, I was trying to defend your right to an opinion but now you've gone too far. Batum can be questioned...he cannot be compared to Telfair, Webster and Khryapa. Such heresy deserves being burned at the stake.
