Scores so far in 5 games: 81, 89, 97(!), 84, 82. Nate is such an amateur when it comes to this end of the court and it shows in the playoffs year after year. We have no execution, we settle for jumpers, we turn it over, we don't get to the line, we're rattled way too easily and it doesn't help that we can't play defense either. Even though it was a mistake, thank goodness his extension was only two years. He's good at pulling a shorthanded team together in the regular season but when it comes to the playoffs the dude is just a failure. He's been outcoached in three straight series so far if he doesn't pull his shit together quickly. Oh, and Rudy is the worst player in pro ball right now. How this scrub gets any minutes is beyond me and I fully expect him to be gone before next season. Aldridge, Matthews and Wallace have been disappointing too. Just bad all around, we'd be done if Roy didn't pull game 4 out of his ass.

Dallas seems to be clogging the lane and cutting off our players moving without the ball. We're not getting many assists either.

I brought this up earlier. In these three years with Nate in the playoffs, this team has failed to score above 90 points in 13 of 17 games. We have only won 2 of those games.

Our offense always seems to abandon us in the third. Don't know why, it just does.

That's because we don't have an offense. If Aldridge is struggling, we are screwed.

We have to be one of the worst perimeter shooting teams in the league. Combine that with only 1 scoring post and it allows teams to clog the middle and make our weakest players beat us. Not to mention we have on of the worst benches in the league, it's fairly amazing we've had the season we've had.

It's a simple equation: no three-point shot = no chance against Dallas packing the lane. That 97 point outburst just HAPPENED to be the game we shot 8-14 from beyond the arc.

If by no offense, you mean we have limited offensive players, I would agree. We certainly run a multitude of sets.

The Blazers shot a better FG% than the Mavericks in game 5

Mavericks won with offensive rebounding and *sigh* shooting 31 FT's after 3 quarters.

The consistency in seeing a huge FT disparity in the post season compared to the regular season is a joke.

Our outside shooting was atrocious. Nothing was going in. Wesley couldn't find the target; which has been a problem for him in Dallas. Maybe its the color of the court, how terribly pathetic their fan base is? Who knows. But until we can muster some perimeter shooting in Dallas, this series is over

Well, let's not act like Portland isn't getting that good home cooking either. It looks like that's just how it's going to be called.

We don't have a deadeye shooter like Terry, Peja, or even Kidd. I once thought Rudy was that guy, but he's a joke. Wallace and Miller are not three point shooters, Roy and Batum are inconsistent, and that's about it. We have too many slashers now, with Roy, Miller, and Wallace, so Dallas just clogs the lane and watches us toss up prayers.

Did you see the disparity in the game thread? Portland at home gets .67 for every point in the paint and Dallas .57. In Dallas portland gets .387 per point in the paint, while Dallas gets .97 per point.

I don't get why Matthews or Wallace can't bring it upon themselves to attack the basket and at least try to be aggressive. It's clear that the ONLY way to get favors from the refs is by being aggressive. But no, we settle for long jumpers and threes all game long and look scared out there. I'll stick by this team through thick and thin but I want to badly to see what we look like under a different coach. Adelman anyone?

Matthews was attacking the rim though. Wallace was as well. But our problem was our outside shooting. It allowed Dallas to zone and pack in the paint. Very hard to score around the rim, when they are just daring you to shoot from the perimeter.

Mo Cheeks and PJ Carlesimo are available as well!

You are dead on. This isn't an X's and O's issue, this is a roster issue. A streaky/below average perimeter shooting team with no bench and only 1 post who can score, it's a tough combination.

How many times in the first half did we draw contact on drives inside, but fail to hear a whistle? I lost count around 7. How nice might those free throws have been later in the 2nd half? It doesn't excuse our total collapse, but damn -- they could at least have PRETENDED to call it even early on.

Yeah true. To me it all seems mental with these guys. Like I said they play rattled when the going starts to get tough and can hardly even keep a grip on the ball let alone hit a 3. I'm not sure what there is to do about that.

I didn't think we drove that much. I remember Wallace and Miller getting (non) fouled a couple times but we mostly just settled for jumpers, especially LA. At some point you have to start forcing the officials to blow their whistles and jump shooting just doesn't do it in the playoffs. Unfortunately to start seeing success we'll have to change our whole philosophy on offense IMO

Seriously, our nerves got the best of us. We rushed absolutely everything. We were out-boarded because we rushed, couldn't make the perimeter shots cause we rushed, and absolutely turned the ball over because we rushed. If we could have just slowed things down; I think we would have had control of this game. We were doing it in the first and had control. The moment we started rushing was when we lost control.

Getting touched on a pullup J gets Dirk to the line almost every time. That's all I'm asking for!

31 fucking FT's going into the 4th

Seriously?...Seriously?

Dallas was 26th in FTA/G this year

IMO our rebounding effort or lack thereof killed us. Out rebounded by 12 and on the offensive end they had 20 friggin rebounds, how many second chance points did they have? Rebounding is desire and effort, they simply wanted it more than we did tonight.

Part of rebounding is playing the right players. Nate chose to leave Camby and Johnson on the bench for the end of the 3rd quarter and most of the 4th. With Dallas playing Chandler and Dirk, that's just giving away way too much size. LaMarcus has never been a great rebounder and without any help, it was totally predictable that the Blazers got killed on the boards. I understand that the lineup he had in there was supposed to produce more offense and that, with hustle, those guys sometimes hold their own on the boards, but it flat wasn't working tonight. I just don't get not changing something when what you're doing isn't working. What the Blazers were doing was definitely NOT working.

Carlisle said in the post game interview that the Mavericks played a lot of zone defense. They would have had to stop and play man to man if the Blazers made their outside shots over it.

Our offense left about the same time McMillan came on board....coincidence?

With or without the free throw disparity, we can't hit from the outside. The 1st half we were solid from the 3 pt line, but couldn't hit anything after that. Besides Roy's 4th quarter outburst, we've had no offense for 2 straight games.
