Reading in the Around the NBA Playoff thread the discussion about building a team via trade or draft got me thinking.

Which players currently on the Blazers are getting the most calls from other teams for possible trades?

IMO, based on production, potential, and contract size, it's Deni and Camara. Contract size is important because most teams can afford them, even ones over the cap. This isn't a debate over who is our best players are, but who are our most sought-after players.

Which is interesting because Deni and Camara are players we traded for vs drafted.

For sure Deni and Camara.

Whoever it is, we need a consolidation trade.

I dont want to trade Deni or Camara, but I want the runway cleared for our young guys to take over.

They are calling about the players they can't have (Avdija and Camara) and are probably trying to get them for nothing.

Some are probably calling about Sharpe as well.

Meanwhile, Cronin is directing them to the other players actually available and getting little response probably.

I bet the Blazers are getting more calls about RWIII than Sharpe. (Conditional on passing a team physical first.)

Deni.
Age, contract, and skill level that are not easily found in someone of that size.

Deni and Tou. Thats it.
You’re crazy FAMS! Teams know they are untouchable. It’s the complete opposite….they are trying to steal JG for hopefully nothing. He is at his lowest value of his career and would be a great 3rd or 4th option on a contender where they aren’t worried about the tax.

No one is untouchable.

See Luka for example.

Also see your wife.

Is there anyone not worried about the tax that can afford his deal?

You don't think JG's contract is a factor for other teams calling for him? If you are right, and people want to steal him, he will be gone for sure.

I think it's more likely the Blazers are calling other teams about JG. He's not a highly coveted player and has a terrible contract. You think teams are actively chasing him?

You think he could make it through a physical?

But the GMs I’ve talked to don’t think like that. It’s all about buy low sell high! Get that asset. Portland fans don’t’ see it, but JG would have a lot of value in the right system.

You've talked to GM's?

They should think like that. Sounds like desperation would have to be sleeping in.

I see how maybe he could be good in the right system.

Let's use OKC as an example, great young team that has more upcoming draft picks than roster slots to fill them. Also a team with players that are about to get fucking paid. You don't think a multi-position role player under a team-friendly contract would be attractive to them?

They could easily overpay 2 first-round draft picks for Camara and 3 first-round picks for Deni because they know they could easily trade a starter for 4 or 5 first-round picks if they run into cap problems.

And the Blazers would say no to that?

(The following was just a crazy example and not something I think will or should happen.)

I definitely see his value for a win-now team like the Lakers or Warriors. The hard part for the Blazers won't be trying to get value back (because I don't think they care about that), but rather moving him without bringing back bad contracts. Otherwise, they might as well keep him since he could help us as well.

If possible, I would love to move him in a sign-and-trade for Kuminga. But that is wishful thinking.

You've talked to GM's?
Over my 25 years in the league sure. Multiple times. Presidents, advanced scouts, you name it. Plane rides, bus rides, dinners, sitting in the stands during warmups.
Talked about all kinds of cool things….. ins and outs of the cap…..scouting…..player movement.
Quite a bit actually. KP/Penn/Buchanon/Cho/our current GM started as an intern with us YEARS ago if you remember. Olshey wasn’t one to talk to us lowlifes though……. ALOT of spare time on the road FAMS!

Trade away the only two solid players so far in this rebuild. Then we have 4-5 picks and have to wait 10 more years and hope we draft the right guys again? Eh.

Yeah, that's the other thing. The few teams that might want him would want to dump their garbage on us. I don't like that idea.

I do want the Blazers to trade him, but only if it's a deal that helps us. I don't want the Blazers to take on more crappy contracts.

One of the funniest ones I’ll never forget was us not being able to get into the tarmac to get on the plane. Can’t remember the city. We all were outside just bullshitting. Dame made the rookies, Sharpe I believe, go get 50 peoples worth of Chic- f-let . Scotty Brooks was breaking down to me and another guy punch by punch, moment by moment when he and Nate McMillan got into a huge fight back when they were players. I love that kind of shit! Also, one of my favorites was all the details of the KD workout for us pre draft.

Just using it as a crazy example, HCP says those two are untouchable, I'm saying no one is untouchable to a team that has 11 first-round draft picks in the next 5 years.

Still don't understand why we took a guy we knew had bad knees over Durant.

OKC is going to have a hard time paying everyone. They will definitely be trying to consolidate and move a few guys for good contracts, but I don't want to see Deni or Tou go. Basically, the only for sure goods we have left.
