I would've posted this in Ed's "Draft Grades" thread, but that's already devolved into a pissing match, so...

I guess I like Utah's, but I'd like it more if Kanter wasn't eerily similar to Al Jefferson. I REALLY like Chicago's, not just because Jimmy Butler is The Feel-Good Story of the Year, but because I think Mirotic is going to be the player we'll be kicking ourselves for passing on...if he ever comes to the NBA. I seriously think he's somewhere between Scola and Pau Gasol, only he's just 20. If he stays in Europe for five years, he'll still be 25 when he comes over.

I also like Charlotte's just because I like Biyombo and Walker, but Walker and Augustin don't work together, so that's a problem they've got to fix. But better to have too many good players, and when you suck like they do, you go BPA.

Others?

Blazers were "losers" in the draft according to yahoo sports.
Loser: Portland Trail Blazers

Felton

The Portland Trail Blazers traded one of the most underappreciated players in point guard Andre Miller(notes) to the Denver Nuggets and sent athletic guard Rudy Fernandez(notes) to the Dallas Mavericks while acquiring point guard Raymond Felton(notes) in a three-team trade. The Nuggets were disappointed with Felton after a lackluster offensive-minded performance in the playoffs and were determined to trade him. While Felton is a solid starting point guard, he’s not as experienced a floor leader as Miller. Friends close to Nuggets coach George Karl said he was thrilled about the return of Miller, whom he hated to see dealt in the Allen Iverson(notes) trade on Dec. 19, 2006. While Fernandez wanted out, the Blazers helped the NBA champion Mavericks and lost an insurance policy for injury-prone guard Brandon Roy(notes).

I still give us a B.

We traded an aging PG that was able to spread the floor for a younger one who can. We also traded a player that has never been the same since being cheap shot by Ariza and the subsequent back surgery. I liked both Miller and Rudy, but we had to move forward and we have.

If I were to grade the draft based on sentiment alone, I'd give it a D-. But I want to win games, not get misty eyed over saying good-by to fan favored players.

Utah. Their core could be scary in a few years. They're set at every position!

PG: Harris
SG: Burks
SF: Hayward
PF: Favors
C: Kanter

This is what happens we you have a cohesive, long-standing front office. You can handle adversity, the down years don't last long, and your always competing.
