White, Anti-Gay Republican Wins Local Election After Pretending To Be Black

This story sounds completely contrived.

"He never put out to voters that he was white,"??? What kind of statement is that?

I have never heard of any candidate ever saying "he is white".

Can you imagine Bill Clinton standing in front of a convention, saying "I am white"??? err, OK!

We need a Constitutional amendment requiring every candidate to disclose his race, sexual orientation, income tax returns, school transcripts, previous collaborations with intelligence agencies, and plans to open 50 torture asylums around the world and start trillion-dollar generation-spanning wars.

Speaking of multi generation wars. War on Poverty.

It's cost us many times more than all our combat situations combined, including any lingering costs (like caring for injured vets for life).

It looks to me like the poverty rate was falling until LBJ's social programs were started, and there's no difference in the poverty rate since - given all the massive spending we've done. There are also way more people in actual poverty.

Success!

All it's done is make government bigger and redistribute wealth in ways that don't have the promised effect.

It sounds like in politics there really are no rules and I don't think requiring candidates to state their race should be put into place. But if you are going to do what this guy did, he should either say he is white or accept the fact people will view him as a fraud who fooled voters . . . ruined his reputation all to become a board member for a community college. I don't get it.

Wilson, a gleeful political troublemaker, printed direct mail pieces strongly implying that he's black. His fliers were decorated with photographs of smiling African-American faces -- which he readily admits he just lifted off websites -- and captioned with the words "Please vote for our friend and neighbor Dave Wilson."
One of his mailers said he was "Endorsed by Ron Wilson," which longtime Houston voters might easily interpret as a statement of support from a former state representative of the same name who's also African-American. Fine print beneath the headline says "Ron Wilson and Dave Wilson are cousins," a reference to one of Wilson's relatives living in Iowa.

Is it ok to con people if they are ignorant and/or racist?

barfo

Our politicians have been doing that for years and years. The only difference is most of the time they just pretend to be competent or principled.
