According to MLB-TV, (twas either Ken Rosenthal or Matt Vasgersian) who said, "I polled 19 Baseball Team Executives, and they all said Mike Trout is the best right now".

Not my words, theirs.

Trout is batting a bit over .400 from ST. Tho' we all know ST stats mean little to nothing.

Is he in your eyes the best overall hitter and defensive player, in the game right now? Let me know please, how you guys feel or think: (My own jury is out)....Trout could be, tho' quit a few could also be considered.

It sure as hell isn't Yasiel Puig, the 'Bum' with a Little League mentality..

How about, who is the Best Starting Pitcher in MLB, right now?

I'd say Clayton Kershaw....(the kid reminds me alot of Koufax, tho' that could be construed as Blasphemy) - who would you say?

Jose Fernandez? The 2013 ROY...? Damn, imagine if Jose played for a wining team who could give him the run support he needs....

Mr. Splitty? Tanaka could turn out to have a great year, the way he is already looking. Tho' I will refrain from saying so, until August.

Miggy frst. He's already a proven. healthy, Triple Crown Winner MVP. The title is His for the taking first, foremost!
* Then Mike Trout as heir apparent to Miggy's throne. Like Pujols once was to Bonds.
* Pujols had a good ST, can he ever duplicate. Did Albert ever take HGH prior to the WBC year of last?

Kershaw no doubt is Koufax's Dodger heir. Already doing what no Dodger Pitcher or Southpaw has done since Koufax's time on the mound, genius *and only 25.
* King Felix would be higher rated, like Jose Fernandez would both be if they played on teams that can score for them.
* Will Jose break the Sophmore Jinx? Will Verlander return to form.
* Will Tanaka take over the #! Spot from C.C.? or will he fall on his face, in time, by the All Star break. If not, will he be a short wonder like Dice-K?

guesstimation estimation assumption are hindsight, foresight are 20/20, sometime more, or less. only time will tell. health is always a factor too. but you mean right now, not who will prove out dominant over the season.

Miggy gets the edge over Trout, 2 years isn't a career...baseball is about performance and consistency.

... the OP question asked who is the "best players" in the game, not just the best hitter, and even this early in his career, I'd rather have Trout than Miggy. I know Trout is young but I think it's safe to say that his numbers are genuine and are not some hot 2 year streak. And unlike Cabrera, Trout is a complete player, a true "5 tool player" if you will. The only facets of the game that the two are even similar is hitting for average and hitting for power. Cabrera was never the fielder nor the runner that Trout is. Trout also plays a more important and demanding position.

As an all around player Trout looks like he's the guy but Cabrera has put up ridiculous numbers. Perhaps not the stolen bases but triple crown numbers are triple crown numbers any way you slice it.

Mike Trout

Trouts tools also put him at risk, far more than Miggy. Way to many 1-3 year wonders in the history of baseball. And if were talking best players, than you have to add Busty Posey and Yadier Molina to that discussion.

All depends on what criteria constitutes 'best'.

When I think best I'm thinking best ALL AROUND PLAYER & that label only applies to Trout.

^^^this.

...again, the OP asked about "the best player"...not the best hitter.

..."Trouts tools also put him at risk" ...and "Way to many 1-3 year wonders in the history of baseball"

...you could apply that logic to Scherzer as well, no?

I'd like to see another season from Trout. People may not realize it but Cabrera could very well have over 3000 hits and well over 500 homers by the age of 35.

I was waiting for someone to mention Yadier. No doubt the engine of the Cardinals, wheels and spokes too. When will he get NL-MVP honors?

Posey???

Trout, got to have him on any team. Definitely a 5 tool guy, much like a 5 legged horse (I didn't say that, I saw it on TV-Top Gear BBC). If we haven't seen his best (yet to come), then we are in for a treat. If we have, were still in for a treat.

Miggy, may not be able to swipe bases, or win a gold glove, yet IMO is the most feared hitter in both leagues. That Triple Crown looms large, and I don't think anyone is going to garner a new crown here soon, or take it from Miggy. If it would be, perhaps that person would no doubt be Mike Trout.........

As for all around best player, He's yet to be seen, and probably still playing in obscurity somewhere?

We all seem to have a good idea who the best all around player(s) in the game are today....

BTW-the links from 59 are worth checking out

So who would you all say is the Most Over Rated player(s) in the game, right now?

sure. potential injury always factors into the risk equation.

trout and posey, miggy is the best hitter, kershaw the best pitcher

Who's to blame for the Giants demise, starting pitching, or coaching that over worked their SP staff?

I wouldn't include Posey in this Discussion either,as far as best player now?

Most Over-Rated:

Adrian Beltre
Josh Hamilton
Albert Pujols (please prove me wrong Albert)
Dan Uggla
Jason Werth-less
Prince Fielder
Ryan Braun

Lincecum just fell apart & lost whatever he had. And now they resigned him for 2 years 35M after the last two years he had & his ST numbers indicate that whatever he lost.....he still hasn't found. I'm glad Zito is gone & I hope Hudson does well.

Shit Fire and save matches....I did not know that about Lincecum's extension.

All that money for a Rubber Arm, Pitcher, go figure. Hudson is looking pretty good in his last outing, or so! I wish him well, and YES, I'm glad the POS Zito is gone, I guess Clearasil took him out.

if they cant win the world series EVERY year, EVERY OTHER year is acceptable for the time being

some pitchers just lose their magic though, and lincecum is one of them sadly. it has a lot to do with his fastball velocity, he was hitting 98 before, now he overthrows to hit 91, and loses his command

I don't remember who it was but some sportscaster did say that with the motion he had it was only a matter of time. Hell, maybe he just suffers from the curse of Samson. Cut his hair & lost his power.

Very Sad Story indeed...!!!:blessed:
Are Last Rites in Order???

I wonder if a WIG would work for Timmy?

happens to the best of them, younger guys can generally throw higher mph, and as they age, they become more finesse pitchers. trouble is, his command is complete shit. still has nasty movement though.

I hope I'm wrong but I can see a similar thing happening with Strausberg of the Nats. Unlike Lincecum lets hope he can adjust.
