Kim Hughes had good experience and good results in his past. It also looks like he did a great job turning Meyers Leonard into an NBA player. With his firing (let's not discuss the why here), WHO ARE THE BEST CANDIDATES TO REPLACE HIM??

Denny and I were discussing this the other day in another thread. Laimbeer was my first pick. He also brought up Kareem and Cartwright.

I picked Laimbeer as my first choice in other threads and I'm going to say I think Sheed is another guy worth looking into. Hakeem is working for Houston I believe. Cartwright, Kareem, Ewing...there are a lot of big man coaches out there

BTW....per Olshey at news conference 7/9/15.....Blazers promoted Jim Moran who had served as video guy to Big Man coach.

6'7", 225 lbs. Played college ball at William & Mary, then spent 10 years in Spain at Gran Canaria (isn't that where Joel Freeland played?). Worked for the Maine Red Claws (isn't that where Tim Frazier played?) before coming to the Blazers.

6 foot 7 seems a little small for a big man coach. Of course size doesn't matter as much as skills in teaching but most of the guys doing this are former Centers.

Jim Moran the video coordinator was my first choice all along. Right after HCP.

Is this yet another old Clipper friend?

Yeah, checking out his profile and highlights, he definitely appears to have been a swingman who played on the perimeter. I guess it's premature to make judgments, but I'm also surprised we didn't get someone more experienced in playing a post position.

No--no connection with the Clippers at all, from what I can see.

After a 6-month national search, Moran survived 5 levels of tough, exhausting interview panels to become the guy who will finally teach Meyers Leonard a feel for the game! I am excited!

This great new hire will shut up all those posters who asked for years, "Why don't we hire a big-man coach?" not knowing the invisible Kim Hughes was making stars out of Leonard and Thomas Robinson.

Just curious. Are they fitting a square peg into a round whole?

I don't know. But what experience does this guy have with bigs? Just wondering.

Not a lot from what I can see. He was still playing as recently as 2011, and the articles I can find about his coaching experience seem to talk most about his time with the Portland Red Claws, primarily his player development work with guards Chris Babb and Frank Gaines.

Then again, maybe that's the direction the Blazers want to go, teaching their bigs to play like guards. :dunno:

I don't know Jim Moran or his abilities. But, I was hoping for a more well known and splashy coaching name!

is Clifford ray still young enough? was considered the kine in his day for developing young bigs
