the booth of Rizzuto, Murcer & White?
Singleton is okay though like Bill White I'll never understand how he because an announcer for the Yankees.
I wouldn't mind more O'Neill & absolutely NONE! of Pinella in the booth.
Yes, no doubt 'Scooter' was one of a kind. I also miss Murcer, and more than any other I miss Mel Allen. I'd like to see O'Neill replace Michael Kay, no brainer. Pardon me, in advance to any Kay fans, he gets on my nerves too.
Some of the worst I've ever heard have been:
Harry Caray (to often drunk & slurring, but bless his heart, he continued to call games after his stroke, creating more of a slur. He was an Icon, of whom I didn't care for his play by play, yet won't argue with Cubs/Cards fans who enjoyed his HOF broadcast career.
Steve Stone so monotone he put me to sleep,
Vin Scully-a Iconic Classic, is no Red Barber, tho' it took me 20 years to get over his "Farmer John" Ham commercials, which ruined me on Scully. I began to appreciate the longest tenure broadcaster, during World Series, and on the Radio at Doy-Yer games. Vince drove me nuts for along time. Now I respect him for the HOF broadcaster he is, and do not mind his game calling. Knowing this will be his last year, I almost regret not appreciating him until the last few years. We won't even know if we can get any Bums games on DirecTv, until negotiations are complete on the 22nd of this month, for L.A. County. Just 5 miles north in Kern county, they are getting SNLAD Bums games on DTV. Go figure.
I was never a Harry Caray Fan, I don't care for his son at all,
Chip & Don Sutton put me to sleep to often (the worst broadcast duo in the game, tho' I also loved watching
Ken "Hawk' Harrelson play ball, I can't stand him in the booth either, if I heard:
"it gone", one more time, I'd put my boot thru the TV.
During the years I worked in Georgia (getting every damn Braves Games, in 96-97). I will never forget how pissed off I got, because every Braves Game, was broadcast on TBS, and/or Fox Sports. Relentlessly televising every single Braves away and home games. I had to buy a then (Huge 6 foot satellite dish) expensive as hell. As cable did not show any other Team's game for the first 3 weeks, and by then I was going nuts, with Yankee withdrawals. By the 4th week, I finally saw my 1st Yanks game of the year, not on Cable either, but with that old outdated satellite dish. So big, I thought I could chat with the Space Shuttle Astronauts. I would latter appreciate watching the Braves, especially when the Yanks kicked their asses in the Series of 96. I made more money that week on bets on that Series, than I did working. To many Braves Fans then, were to naive to recognize there were other great teams other than their own.
