A very long time ago I was with a group of people who lived in Berkeley, students at Cal, and took a bus to a political conference in Chicago over holidays. On the way home bus broke down a mile from St. Paul in a snowstorm. All us California kids without real winter gear hiked into St Paul and found a diner. Did I mention it was late at night? They were about to close. But they stayed open to shelter us freezing Californians until a new bus arrived. Surely they wanted to go home.

Only time I was ever in Minnesota.
