Brandon Rush had 27 points last night. Jarrett Jack is having a career year. Bayless isnt playing which is sad cause sergio is ahead of him. I think its safe to say it wasnt one of KPs better deals.
It was all about moving JJ, nothing more.
If we just wanted to move JJ, I'm pretty sure we could have given him away for nothing. We got a projected top three or four talent in the process. I can't believe people are ready to give up on Bayless. Of course, it's just a Mixum thread, but sheesh. The guy has talent. I think some people are expecting too much from rookies. Joe Johnson took at least two or three years before he started playing at the caliber he is now.
You're absolutely right.
My feeling is that we've been spoiled by Roy. All of a sudden we expect every rookie who breezes through here to instantly jump in perform at a high level. I'm not going to say Jerryd will or won't pan out, but my feeling is that he's got plenty of athleticism, talent and drive, but he's pretty lean on experience having gone one and done at U of A ... and by the looks of things hasn't had many coaches who really demanded he hone his playmaking skills.
My guess is that if he's going to be a starter on this team it won't be for at least another year -- assuming of course the team makes a commitment to developing him.
Good player/ maybe not a good fit.
I was happy when we acquired him, but at this point I think it is 50/50 he winds up being traded. If Nate saw the same positives in his game that we do, he wouldn't be sitting behind Sergio.
1 season always determines everything. Actually, one game. This is like a kingspeed thread. Come on, that's such a reach.
Especially since Bayless hasn't even been given a real shot at playing.
of course Rush was the guy that Bird wanted... Portland could have used the #13 on other prospects. My choice pre-draft was Anthony Randolph who is clocking in with a 16.5 PER and is the youngest player in the league.Neither Rush nor Jack is making this deal look bad. Even if Bayless totally busts (and I don't think he will), the most the team lost was a mediocre back-up point guard. They don't grow on trees, but they're worth giving up for the chance at a long-term starter.
But isn't that part of the point? Of the 4 rooks, why is Bayless the one on the super short leash? The obvious implication is that Nate doesn't have the same degree of faith in him.

That's not necessarily true. I think Nate likes his game, but it's obvious that Rudy plays better with Sergio, and Nate needs a passing point guard to get all the scorers involved on the second unit. Bayless needs to replace Blake eventually, but he's not ready to do that. While Blake isn't much of a passer, he does know when to shoot and when not to shoot. That's what Bayless needs to learn. When to take over, and when to pass. He's being groomed to be the starter, not the backup.
I would also like to point out that Nate has always been especially hard on point guards.

With the obvious and glaring exception of JJ.![]()

Yeah, we're a playoff team...rookies don't usually break into the playoff team rotation....unless there's an injury as in the case of Webster.
The Blazers said they wanted to make Outlaw a SF this year. I wonder how much we'd have to suffer through watching Channing Frye, if Webster did not get hurt. To start the season, Webster would be starting at SF with Frye and Outlaw coming off the bench.
We may not have even known how good Batum is.
