Isn't the DR more than half of the same island as Haiti? Did only one side of the island shake? :dunno:
 
The epicenter of the quake was Port-Au-Prince which is in Haiti. Construction in the DR is probably better as well.

I would guess, although they're an island, that it would be similar to if the Tri-Cities had an earthquake, and why there wouldn't necessarily have issues in Spokane or Pendleton. Distance and location of the earthquake.

I was totally looking at Puerto Rico, thinking it was Haiti/DR. It really blew my mind that an island that small would feel an earthquake on only one end. Let the merciless mocking commence...

this. If you didn't know, Haiti is significantly worse off than DR.
 
DR is a wealthy country, owned largely by foreign investors. Haiti is a diseased slum.

With regard to the Dominican Republic earthquake, presidential spokesperson Rafael Nunes said it felt "very strong". Unlike Haiti, there is no damage reported thus far in the Dominican Republic.
