PapaG gets banned/suspended, while MIXUM's trolling continues unabated. Wonderful message board we have here.
Some people may find MIXUM's posts unpleasant, but it's not against our rules to be unpleasant. If the community is large enough, at least one poster is likely to not like some other one. All we ask is for a little respect for people even if you don't like them.
FWIW, I think he's certainly a character and negative on the team and some players, but why should we squash unpopular opinons that aren't hate speech (the nazi/kkk kind)? In his favor, he stayed away all summer like he promised he would, and I don't think I've seen him attack anyone who is not a public figure...
We sure gave OIG and at least one other poster here more leeway than any other message board probably would have - it's not our ideal to be banning people who are demonstrating a real interest in being a member of the site.
I don't believe anyone should ever be banned. I believe in the freedom to express yourself, even if it means you insult someone else. I like freedom of speech, even when I don't like the message. As for trolls, the best way to stop them if they annoy you is to ignore them. The posters here clearly enjoy fighting with MIXUM, otherwise his threads would all have zero responses.
There's a clear line where we've banned, and that's when a poster is belligerent and making posts full of insults at other posters. Especially if those other posters are new to S2.
The number of suspensions have been about 5 to my knowledge, since 2007. Those were all posters we want to stick around.
KingSpeed, you can't be told because it violates the poster/admin confidentiality clause. If they told you they'd have to shoot you.
I am sure no one gets banned for opinions. (Well... unless it is a opinion of a poster and not another opinion)
If you look at the forum rules they list quite what will get you in trouble.
I actually wish we had no written rules. The idea is to simply act like an adult. We're an open forum, which means we let people sign up freely.
Reasonable question.
Also reasonable to assume this was handled with integrity here.
Because everything here is handled by sensible and responsible people....many of whom were chosen for their jobs by the posters here.
The staff positions are unpaid. The guys who volunteered are doing us all a really big favor by doing what they do. Since there are enough regulars here to have a reasonable vote, we elect the mods - in other forums we ask for volunteers (mgb for one).
They're posters first and foremost, and really just want to have a good time like the rest of us. It's not too much to ask, IMO, to show them respect even if you don't like them or something they did "wrong."
